News Digest no. 33 from Bingley Town Council – July 2019

Dear resident

We were very pleased to have so much interest in the recent co-option process and are delighted that, with the co-option of Richard Holmes to the vacant position in the Bingley Central ward, the Council is now returned to its full complement of sixteen councillors. We look forward to working with all residents and including further volunteers in our committees and working groups.

July sees the start of our second round of Play in the Park events, this year with 6 events and additional bouncy castles! See the details below to find your nearest session. There is no charge for attending, just come along and enjoy!

We’re now well into the season of summer events, and Town Councillors will be out and about this month, including at Cottingley Fun Day on 13 July and Bingley Show on 20 July. Do come and see us!

Kind regards, Ros Dawson Chair, Bingley Town Council

Bingley Live and Bingley Weekender

Glen Shaw, President of Bradford & Bingley Rugby Club, updated the council on 25 June on progress with the new Bingley Weekender event. This is taking place from 30 August to 1 September at the rugby club premises at Wagon Lane, and is a response to the cancelled Bingley Music Live event in Myrtle Park. Mr Shaw reported that the event is being managed by SSD who are dealing with road closures, permissions and other requirements. A resident meeting had been well attended. Beckfoot School is to be used for car parking and the event will have 1,000 people camping and up to 8,000 per day https://us14.campaign-archive.com/?u=e4e0d5847c658bcbebd4d1a8d&id=45402e3347 4/9 8/6/2019 News Digest no. 33 from Bingley Town Council – July 2019 attending the event. Assurances were given about the avoidance of single-use plastic and facilities for water bottles to be refilled.

The Town Council has requested information from Bradford Council about the circumstances of the cancellation and the future viability of Bingley Music Live, and is still awaiting a detailed reply.

Rupert Pometsey and Hussain Brook from Incommunities attended the full council meeting on 25 June to explain their plans for the future of the Crosley Wood site. Mr Pometsey gave a short presentation advising that 93 properties will be built on the site once demolition of the three high rise flats has taken place (scheduled for August). Forty six properties will be used for affordable rented housing and the remainder will be a mixture of shared ownership and full ownership.

Floral displays

The Town Council’s displays, commissioned from Carlton Nurseries, are now in place around the parish. This year’s additions include tubs in the Crownest and Priestthorpe areas and on the mini-roundabout at the junction of Warren Lane and Swan Avenue, a tiered planter on the junction of Road and Old Main Street, a new barrier basket outside the Memorial Hall in Eldwick and an additional one at the junction of Main Street and Park Road. There is also an extra pole-mounted basket at Poplar House.

Office/toilets conversion project

The 99-year lease for the toilet block in Jubilee Gardens as recently amended by Bradford Council has now been finalised and the property has been transferred to the Town Council on a peppercorn rent. The Council can now make an application for borrowing approval for £163,500 from the Secretary of State. A tender specification for the work to convert the existing building into public toilets and an office for the Town Council was agreed by full council at the end of June and the tender will shortly be issued. Work continues to progress the installation of a Changing Places facility.
