Do you want to host the 3 rd Asia Pacific ?

GLISA Asia Pacific is seeking expressions of interests from communities or cities interested in hosting the 3 rd Asia Pacific Outgames.

The expression of interest should take the form of a letter delivered by 19 June 2011 that outlines your interest and the broad scope of the event you see as possible in being a host for the 3 rd Asia Pacific Outgames.

What is the Asia Pacific Outgames? The Asia Pacific Outgames is a regular regional event that consists of three components: Sports, Human Rights, and Culture. It is an experience for the Asia Pacific’s rainbow communities and their friends.

The event is intended to encourage participation and strengthen communities by bringing people together. The Asia Pacific Outgames is a signature event for the Asia Pacific region.

Sports There should be a minimum of eight sports that include a mix of individual and team sports and be appropriate for attracting people from a range of ages and genders. You are encouraged to include sports that highlight the strengths of your city but also maximise participation from across the region.

There are no qualification requirements for participants.

Human Rights A human rights conference should be held that attracts a range of participants and addresses a number of themes.

Culture There should be opening and closing ceremonies or celebrations. Additional cultural elements to showcase the host community or the Asia Pacific’s rainbow community can be broad and expansive.

Do you want to host the 3 rd Asia Pacific Outgames?

Context Asia Pacific Outgames are a regional games held between world wide LGBT games. Other regional games include the North American Outgames (first held in in 2007 and to be held in in 2011). Eurogames are held across every year except years when there is a major world wide games.

Currently there are two world wide events: and . They will be held in 2013 and 2014 respectively, whilst it is agreed that there will be one world-wide event in 2018 and on a quadrennial basis thereafter.

GLISA Asia Pacific strongly supports one quadrennial event and having a supportive cooperative partnership with the Federation of Gay Games.

GLISA Asia Pacific is concerned about the lack of continuity to the Asia Pacific Outgames if there was no local regional event until 2015 or 2016 and so has selected the interval described below to maintain continuity but not to distract support from world wide events.

On an ongoing basis GLISA Asia Pacific prefers triennial Asia Pacific Outgames.

GLISA Asia Pacific enters into license and partnership agreement with the host city.

The 3rd Asia Pacific Outgames When: GLISA Asia Pacific would prefer the 3 rd Asia Pacific Outgames taking place between 1 November 2013 and 30 April 2014, however GLISA Asia Pacific is open to considering alternatives. Your 3APO event should be scheduled to maximise the interval between your event and either of the world wide games.

Positioning: GLISA Asia Pacific would be interested in seeing the 3 rd Asia Pacific Outgames being a ‘warm up’ event for Gay Games in Cleveland. If that timeframe doesn’t suit your vision then your games should target communities unlikely to be attending the Gay Games in Cleveland.

Size: If the event would take place between Antwerp World Outgames and Cleveland Gay Games then GLISA Asia Pacific would see expect these to be a small event focussed on encouraging participation from previous under-represented populations.

Requirements for the Expression of Interest The Expression of Interest should be submitted to Nick Ward via [email protected] by 19 June 2011. Outline preliminary ideas and responses to the content of this document.

Host Selection process Host selection is a three step process: 1 – Bidding Organisations submit expressions of interest 2 – Request for Proposal issued by GLISA Asia Pacific to Bidding Organisations 3 – GLISA Asia Pacific assesses and evaluates and it’s members vote GLISA Asia Pacific would prefer to work collaboratively with communities or cities interested in hosting.
