16 Open the Book www.openthebook.net Open the Book offers a thematic programme of dramatised Bible stories, each around ten minutes long, which fits comfortably into Collective Worship/ Assembly time in schools. Teams of volunteer storytellers from local churches use audience participation, drama, mime, props and costume to present Bible stories in ways that are lively, engaging, informative and great fun for everyone involved.

During 2013-14, nine new teams/schools have registered; moreover, several other partnership churches are already exploring Open the Book with their local schools and hope to launch during the next academic year. Here are some thoughts from some of the volunteers involved, who want to serve their local schools:

“I heard about Open the Book last February, and we felt that it was something that we could, and needed, to do, because otherwise how are the children going to hear the Bible Stories today?”

“Most of us have never done anything like this before, but we really enjoy it.”

“They asked us one week if, after our story, we could talk about the toys we had as kids, as they would be so different from the ones they have now! That was quite fun!”
