Australian Doctors in Recovery 22Nd Annual Meeting QT Hotel Canberra Who are we? Australian Doctors Australian Doctors in Recovery (ADR) is a fellowship of health professionals (doctors, dentists, vets, pharmacists and other health professionals with doctoral level qualifications) in Australia and New In Recovery Zealand who are in recovery from addiction to alcohol or other drugs. Every March we hold a nd conference for recovering doctors in Australia and New Zealand. We also warmly welcome our 22 Annual Meeting friends from USA, Canada, Hong Kong and UK who on regular basis attend our conference. Our 22nd Annual Meeting in 2017 will take place in beautiful Canberra, the National Capital of Australia. The conference will be held at the QT Hotel located close to the City centre and shores of Lake Burley Griffin. The National Capital of Australia offers a lot of attractions including Parliament House QT Hotel Canberra tours, the National Museum, National Gallery, War Memorial, Questacon-the National Science and Technology Centre and much more. Autumn in Canberra is beautiful and 17-19 March 2017 every morning hot air balloons take off from the lawns of Old Parliament House and a Recovery Ride on one of them is highly recommended. For those travelling to Canberra via Sydney or Melbourne we are happy to ask our friends there to organise sightseeing in these two cities. GPS makes travelling in Canberra easy but be aware of speed and red light cameras both stationary and mobile. Day 1 is the Addiction Medicine Academic Day with lectures by invited speakers, usually specialists in the addiction medicine field or related. This day is open to all health professionals. Professors Geoffrey Farrell-ANU Canberra, Iain McGregor-University of Sydney, William Haning-University of Hawaii-already confirmed speakers. The program of the academic day can be viewed on our website, www.idaa.org/sites/adr for further updates. Day 2 and day 3 closed meetings, based on the 12 step recovery and abstinence principles of AA/NA are a forum to address specific needs of health professionals and their families with confidentiality and respect as an adjunct to regular AA/NA meetings. An Al-Anon meeting is planned too on Saturday. You and your family are invited! Many of us have found that attending ADR was an important turning point in our recovery. Canberra's newest hotel and arguably one of the most groundbreaking boutique developments in Australia for the past decade. Hotel Hotel is located on the first three levels of an architectural oddity, the NewActon Nishi building, which locals have dubbed "The Pineapple" due to its segmented, off-kilter façade (pictured). We aren't sure what the architects were smoking, but we definitely want to try some. You sound impressed. You betcha. For a start, the hotel says it embraces the princi-ples of sustainability, community and diversity (the Hotel Hotel people refer to their place as being for "people people"). And the Nishi building is a veritable "vertical village", incorporating luxury residential apartments, government offices, a "global" cinema, independent book and pop-up stores, cafes and bars. What's not to love? What about the design? It's so cutting edge it should come with a warning. Guests enter the hotel via a grand stairway of floating timber, some of it salvaged from the site the hotel was built on and an old sports court. Industrial materials, most prominently concrete, are used throughout the property. The concierge desk and the wall behind it are created from Ultrafloor (a concrete used in car parks) arranged as cleverly stacked beams, with the aggregate left exposed. Ditto, the ceiling of the lobby/dining room (pictured), which is simple bare concrete with circular voids cut into it to reveal the tree-fern garden in the atrium above.

It is of historical significance as the official residence of almost all Prime Ministers since its completion in 1927. The Lodge is also associated with the development of Canberra as the national capital, especially the phase which saw the relocation of Parliament to the new city. The Lodge provides a suite of reception rooms in a building and setting of appropriately refined and dignified design, which demonstrates the principal characteristics of an official residence suitable for the incumbent of that office. The building is a fine example of the Inter-War Georgian Revival style of architecture, with features specific to that style, such as symmetrical prismatic massing and refined Georgian detailing. It is also significant for its associations with the architects Oakley and Parkes, who played a key role in the design of Canberra's permanent housing in its initial phase.

    CANBERRA ALPINE CLUB INC ANNUAL REPORT FOR 2018 TO BE READ IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE AUDITED ACCOUNTS SUPPLEMENT Canberra Alpine Club The Club was formed on 31 July 1934 at the Alpine Hotel, Kiandra and was incorporated on 29 June 1955 (registration number A.19). The motion to form the Club was put by Tim Ingram and Tom Campbell at a meeting chaired by H.J. Lamble, then Director of the NSW Government Tourist Bureau. The inaugural general meeting was held at the Hotel Canberra on 11 October 1934 to elect office bearers and a committee and to ratify the provisional operating arrangements. The Club is governed by a written Constitution, By-laws and the Associations Incorporation Act 1991. The present Constitution, which has been subject to minor amendments, was adopted in 1996 and the By-laws are revised annually and circulated each June. The objects of the Club include promoting snowsports and bushwalking, fostering the conservation of the alpine environment and the interest of members in matters of historical or heritage significance to skiing or bushwalking including the preservation of buildings, sites and objects. The Club is a corporate member of Snowsports ACT. The Club is also a member of SLOPES (Ski Lodges of Perisher, Guthega and Smiggins Inc) and of the Kosciuszko Huts Association. The Mount Franklin Chalet was constructed for the Club in 1938 with bunk accommodation for 32 on leased land. The Chalet reverted to the Government when Namadgi National Park was created in 1984 and was destroyed by bushfires in January 2003, with a new shelter being erected by the ACT Government in 2007.
