-13 November 7 ACTIVITY GUIDE

BIG IDEA THE BIBLE When I worship God, I can be Amos: Amos 5:18-24; sincere. (Matthew 25:1-13)

• Hi families! Here are some discussion questions & activities for you to do throughout the week of November 7-13 to keep the conversation going from what your kids learned on Crossroads Kids TV this week! • Choose one to do every day of your week or choose a day and do them all! ELEMENTARY

MUSIC | Eyewitness Praise • INSTRUCTIONS: Play the video and invite the kids to sing along and follow the motions to this song, "10,000 Reasons." Take worship breaks during the day and choose some favorite songs from the list at the end of this activity sheet.

DISCUSSION | Let’s Talk About What We Learned! • What can you tell me about Amos? • What was the breaking news Amos had for the people of Israel? • How did God expect the people of Israel to be sincere? • Let's look at Matthew 25:13. What do you think this verse has to do with what we heard about today? • Why do you think it was important for Amos to share this message with the people? • How do you think we can worship God sincerely?

• How will you choose to show genuine worship to God this week?

MEMORY VERSE | Memory Voices Be on your guard; Stand firm in the faith; Be courageous; Be strong. 1 Corinthians 16:13 • INSTRUCTIONS: Say the memory verse with your child(ren). Then have them repeat after you, as you change your voice -- be loud and then soft, deep and then high-pitched – be creative! As change your voice, tell the kids to repeat after you, mimicking the same voice.

PRAYER INSTRUCTIONS: Spend several times a day taking a break in your routine and stopping to pray. • God, thank You for the words You gave the prophet, Amos, and for showing us that our worship must be sincere. Teach us how to let the things we do match the things we say and help us to remember that we can worship You in small and big ways from anywhere we are and with everything we do. Amen. • Pray Numbers 6:24-26 over your kids. This is a beautiful blessing that I (Jacob) pray over my child a lot!

ACTIVITY | Color Word Test • Today, we're going to talk about how actions and words sometimes don't match. • Let's take a look at this fun little test that shows words that don't do what they should. • INSTRUCTIONS: Show The Stroop Test, and tell the kids to call out the color of the word and not what the word says. (You can use different colors of paper, but print the word of a different color on the paper, for example, write the word “green” on a piece of blue paper.) • That was hard, wasn't it? We wanted to read the word instead of calling out the color. Sometimes, what we say and what we do don't match, just like those words.

ACTIVITY | Photo Op • INSTRUCTIONS: Play an upbeat worship song. Tell your kids to dance, but when the music stops, they must freeze in place. While they are "frozen," take pictures as though for a newspaper article. After you have taken pictures, resume the music. Repeat a few times. If possible, you might want to take a few real pictures and print them later with captions and post them in your space. • Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Here we are, back again with breaking news — moments in the Bible where God had news to communicate through prophets. The prophet we will meet today is going to tell us something about how we worship God. • So, let's do some freestyle worship together! When the music is playing, dance and enjoy yourselves. When the music stops, freeze in place so we can get pictures for our breaking news.

Here is an additional activity that may require some supplies and/or would be great for a group!

ACTIVITY | Whole Heart • Another word for "sincere" is "wholehearted." When we worship God, we need to do it with our whole heart. That means no shortcuts, and with everything we have in us. • INSTRUCTIONS: If possible, print the heart puzzle at the end of the activity guide. (If not, help your child(ren) draw a heart puzzle and cut it into pieces. Have them glue it back together on a piece of construction paper or cardstock. Tell them to write "actions," "words," "thoughts," and "feelings" on each puzzle piece. • The pieces of the heart represent the things that make a "whole heart" — our actions, words, thoughts, and feelings. • Have them write your name on the heart to remind themselves: when I worship God, I can be sincere.
