The Rt Hon Jesse Norman, MP

“The Re-emergence of Global Britain: Brexit, Covid and Beyond”

Conservative Member of Parliament, Government minister, writer and academic Jesse Norman will discuss the economic and political landscape of the United Kingdom today. Brexit, the pandemic, technology and the shifting nature of international politics have changed the game, creating serious challenges and huge long term opportunities.

Jesse Norman was elected to Parliament for and South in 2010. He was appointed Financial Secretary to the Treasury in 2019, and is responsible for tax and customs policy, trade and tariffs policy, border readiness, and the national infrastructure strategy, among other things. Before that he was and held ministerial office in the and the Business Department.

A noted parliamentarian, Jesse was awarded Spectator Parliamentarian of the Year and The House Backbencher of the Year in 2012.

Before entering politics Jesse was a Director at . He taught philosophy at University College , and ran a charitable project in Communist Eastern Europe, among other things. A keen Americanophile, he lived in the USA for six years.

His books and pamphlets include “: the First Conservative”, which was listed for the Samuel Johnson Prize, the Political Book Awards and the George Orwell Prize, and “: Father of Economics” won the Parliamentary Book Awards in 2018.

Jesse has degrees in Classics (Oxford University, MA) and philosophy (University College London MPhil, PhD). He has held various honorary fellowships, and was Visiting Fellow at All Souls College, Oxford in 2016-7.
