The iconic bassist and co-founder of the Red Hot Chili Peppers tells his fascinating origin story, complete with all the dizzying highs and the gutter lows you’d want from an LA street rat turned world-famous rock star. In Acid for the Children, Flea takes listeners on a deeply personal and revealing tour of his formative years, spanning from Australia to the New York City suburbs to, finally, Los Angeles. Through hilarious anecdotes, poetical meditations, and occasional flights of fantasy, Flea deftly chronicles the experiences that forged him as an artist, a musician, and a young man. His dreamy, jazz-inflected prose makes the Los Angeles of the 1970s and 80s come to gritty, glorious life, including the potential for fun, danger, mayhem, or inspiration that lurked around every corner. It is here that young Flea, looking to escape a turbulent home, found family in a community of musicians, artists, and junkies who also lived on the fringe. He spent most of his time partying and committing petty crimes. But it was in music where he found a higher meaning, a place to channel his frustration, loneliness, and love. This left him open to the life-changing moment when he and his best friends, soul brothers, and partners-in-mischief came up with the idea to start their own band, which became the Red Hot Chili Peppers. With an original poem by Patti Smith introducing this unique memoir, Acid for the Children is the debut of a stunning new literary voice, whose prose is as witty, entertaining, and wildly unpredictable as the author himself.

  • Chapter I Introduction
1 CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION A. Background of the Study People have three basic needs in their live, such as cloth, food, and house. But it will more complete if there is love every day. Without love, people cannot live better, because they cannot share their feeling to the others. Love makes people happy, sad, angry, laugh, and even it can make people cry. In Islam, love has comprehensive view, that is love of Allah, love of Prophet Muhammad, and the last is human love. Musbikin (2002: 30) says that love is sacred. It is given by Allah and priceless. Every person deserves to get love even though he or she has to fight for it. The literature and psychology have close relationship. The psychology discovers the human’s behavior that is influenced by their experience. From the experience of human’s life, it can give inspiration for author to produce a literary work. The novel as part literary work replicates some realities that happen in the human’s life. It is induce the behavior of the character in the novel. The knowledge of the psychology helps the author to create characters in plays and novels more real as well as situation and plot (Wellek and Warren, 1956: 88-91). The Notebook is a romantic novel which is made in 1996 by Nicholas Sparks. It is based on true story and it was Nicholas Sparks’ 1 2 first published. The novel consists of 8 chapters inside it. • Book Reviews
Book Reviews Beil, Benjamin, Gundof S. Freyermuth, and Hanns Christian Schmidt, eds. Playing Utopia: Futures in Digital Games. transcript, 2019. A diverse but tightly consolidated collective effort, the volume Playing Utopia: Futures in Digital Games was conceived and prepared for publication at the Cologne Game Lab in Germany. Cologne is famous for the largest video game fair in Europe, gamescom. It is only one of the many installments of the Cologne Trade Fair, founded almost a century ago as one of the many industrial World Fairs, initially designed as large-scale futuristic celebrations of progress. Unaffiliated, but situated in the same cultural dimension, is the Clash of Realities conference, organized by the Cologne Game Lab. It is a major international game studies conference in Germany with already 10 years of history. The chapters in Playing Utopia are from and inspired by a summit at the Clash of Realities in 2018; the volume gathers work from scholars based in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, and the UK, at the time of writing. The German-speaking school of game studies may not be as large and influential as any of the streams in the English-speaking scholarship. However, many important concepts from game studies originated in it: the universally accepted definition of gamification (Deterding) comes from Germany, and the lesser known (but gaining popularity) understanding of interpassivity in games and arts (Jagodzinski; Pfaller) has Austrian roots. These concepts have been productively discussed by German-speaking scholars in parallel with, or even before, their international dissemination. With that in mind, we are free to speculate which ideas from Playing Utopia will travel across continents in the future.

  • When Did You Start Playing Music? When I Was 11 Years Old I Started Playing Harmonica
When did you start playing music? When I was 11 years old I started playing Harmonica. My parents split up when I was 12. I lived part time downtown with my mom and in the suburbs with my Dad. When I was living with my Mom i worked at a candy factory called Bissinger’s and I saved up money for my first guitar. Then I got myself a harmonica holder, and a top hat, and Bob Dylan’s Nashville Skyline Rag. I drew a very life like picture of myself as Bob Dylan on the cover of Nashville Skyline tipping my top hat with my harmonica holder and my new guitar and learned every song on that album by ear and then I was transformed. And so it begins. What other influences did you have early on? I had an amazing amount of influences in my family because I had two older sisters…. Old enough to be slightly more hip to better music? Yeah, really fucking hip. My dad was a total conservative square listening to like Englebert Humperdinck and Herb Alpert, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin. My sister Melanie was a hippy, so she had a lot of the San Francisco stuff like the Grateful Dead, Country Joe And The Fish, Jefferson Airplane Etc Etc. but because of us living in St. Louis she was heavily into R&B, Like The O’Jays, The Four Tops, The Supremes, Marvin Gaye. Little Stevie Wonder. So all that stuff was flowing around there and my brother being like 14 was into the popular music of that time.
