The Department of Housing and Residence Life has worked with the Office of Environmental Health & Safety to update the permitted and prohibited cooking appliances for Embry-Riddle Daytona Beach Residence Halls. Please use this guide when preparing to live on campus in one of our Residence Halls. This list is subject to change at any time by the Department of Housing and Residence Life.

***“Lounge Only” refers to lounge spaces where a sink, counter space, and accessible fire extinguisher are present. This includes lounge areas in New Residence Hall 1 and New Residence Hall 2.

***Cooking appliances may not be used in individual student bedrooms.

***If using the charcoal grills in courtyard areas, fluid and “quick-light” charcoal are not permitted.

Statement on Fire Safety

The use of Cooking Appliances in the Residence Halls is a privilege. Always use caution when cooking and follow the manufacturer instructions when using cooking appliances. In the event of an emergency or fire, immediately contact 9- 1-1 and then Campus Safety & Security at (386) 226-SAFE (7233).

Additionally, all students should follow the Housing and Residence Life Community Standard regarding Fire Safety:

 Residents who set off the fire alarm system can be charged with violating this community standards policy, failure to comply, and/or the Fire and Emergency Equipment & Procedures Honor Code Policy.

 Residents and their guests are required by state law to evacuate a building in the event of a fire alarm. Residents must adhere to directives of University officials and/or emergency personnel and report to the designated evacuation area(s). During an evacuation, the building is not to be reentered until proper authorization is given by a University official.
