At San Francisco Day School, we believe that when intellect and imagination are intertwined, students delight in the discovery of connection: in their academic and creative pursuits, in their relationships, and in all that they experience here. Every day we help our students emerge as flexible, resourceful learners. Because when we do, our students light up with the call and capacity to take on the complexities of their day and of a diverse world. 2 4 Letter from Head of School 22 Parents Association 6 Faculty Milestones 24 SF Day Fest 8 Alumni Council/Year in Review 26 Your Support at Work 10 Alumni Spotlight 28 Financial Highlights 12 Alumni Class Notes 30 Annual Fund 14 Alumni Matriculation 36 Gifts by Constituency 16 Community Celebrations 42 Endowment 18 Board Year-in-Review 46 Breakthrough SF 20 New Trustees 55 Acknowledgments & Credits From the Head of School, Dr. Mike Walker

The word “community” is often used in response to the question, “What makes SF Day so special?” Indeed, when our parents, faculty, students, alumni, grandparents, trustees, and friends come together, the strength and power of our collective school spirit is undeniable, and our depth of generosity is unmatched. The wonderful success of our Annual Fund, Endowment, SF Day Fest, and Raise Your Paddle are each a testament to the steadfast commitment of the SF Day community. With the leadership of our Parents Association and many volunteer committees, we are set for success, and we are so grateful.

This year, we celebrated the SF Day community by shining a light on the stars among us; these are the people who inspire us and make us shine. In March 2018, our community gathered together at a new venue, The Palace Hotel, to continue its ongoing support of discounted tuition and professional development. We thank all of our volunteers, underwriters, and donors who contributed their invaluable resources to Shine Like a Star and came out to support SF Day’s commitment to affordability and accessibility. Together, we raised over $350,000! Shine On!

Your generosity in the 2017-18 school year directly supported our innovative and dedicated faculty as they advanced the academics, unleashed the designers, nurtured the tinkerers, inspired the musicians, and directed the thespians in all of our students. The qualities of these learning experiences help our students delight in the discovery of connection: in their academic and creative pursuits, in their relationships, and in all that they experience here.

The school we love was built by generations of people who have lent their time, talents, energy, and financial resources to make SF Day the remarkable place it is today. Generous gifts from parents, parents of alumni, grandparents, faculty, and staff built our $28.6 million endowment, an exceptional achievement for a 37-year-old school. Gifts to SF Day’s endowment are an investment in our long-term financial stability and an opportunity to significantly grow support for our educational programs, our faculty’s professional development, and Discounted Tuition. In 2017-18, the endowment draw provided $1.2 million to support the school’s operating budget. We are grateful for the endowment gifts from families and friends of SF Day to support our effort in maintaining a strong financial standing well into the future.
