2007 Performers of the Week Monday, August 20, 2012 Week #1 : April 3 Track Josh Hurlebaus - Carroll College - Sophomore Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead Hurlebaus earned individual titles in the 100-meter dash (11.00) and 200-meter dash (22.20) to lead the Carroll men’s team to a first- place finish at the Ripon Invitational. Hurlebaus’ times in the 200 and 100 ranked first and second in the conference this season, respectively.

Melissa Roesch - Carroll College - Sophomore Watertown, Wis./Watertown Roesch finished the Ripon Invitational with a first-place finish in the 100-meter dash and a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash to lead the Lady Pioneers to a second-place team finish. The sophomore clocked in at 12.92 to win the 100 and then finished with a time of 26.64 in the 200. She also teamed with Rachel Hansen, Melissa Mente and Tiana Jungels for a second-place finish in the 4x100 meter relay. The 100-meter dash and relay times are tops in the MWC this season. Field Alex Stuart - - Senior Kirkwood, Ill./Yorkwood An indoor track All-American earlier in the month in the triple jump, Stuart became the first NCAA provisional qualifier in the MWC during the outdoor season. The senior won the javelin event with a conference-best throw of 191’02.00” at the Augustana Viking Olympics, which were shortened due to rain.

Jenni Marcell - Ripon College - Junior Mosinee, Wis./D.C. Everest Marcell placed in the top three in three different events in last weekend’s Sherman-Lukoski Invite at Ripon. She won the hammer throw with a distance of 130’11.0”, which tied her own school record. The junior then went on to place second in the shot put (40’06”.25) and third in the discus (115’08.00”). Marcell’s hammer throw mark is tops in the MWC this year.

Week #2 : April 10 Track D.J. Jackson - College - Freshman Webster Groves Mo./Webster Groves Jackson finished third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.13 and third in the long jump (20’40.00”), helping the Blueboys to a third- place team finish against a strong field at Saturday’s Washington University Meet. Jackson currently holds the MWC’s top long jump mark at 21’08.25”.

Amy Thompson - - Senior Rollinsville, CO/Nederland Facing freezing temperatures and gusting winds, Thompson managed to turn in the conference’s top performance in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles at Friday’s Central Invitational. The senior finished second in the race with a time of 1:11.75. She also ran the leadoff leg on Knox’s sixth-place 4x100 relay team.

Field Willie Stewart - - Junior Grinnell, /Grinnell Stewart turned in a strong performance at the Northwest Missouri State Invite on Saturday despite unfavorable weather conditions. The junior thrower won the javelin event with an NCAA provisional qualifying throw of 191’07.00”, giving him the top throw in the league this season and the third-best in all of Division III. Ashley Meyers - - Senior Litchfield, Ill./Litchfield Meyers had a trio of strong performances to help the Lady Blues to a second-place team finish at Saturday’s Washington University Meet. The senior thrower finished second in the shot put (12.23m), second in the discus (37.28m) and fourth in the hammer throw (40.49m).

Week #3 : April 17 Track Dante Daniels - Monmouth College - Senior Waukegan, Ill./Gurnee-Warren At Saturday’s Jim Duncan Invitational at Drake University, the majority of the events were won by Division I athletes. Daniels did not post a victory, but the Fighting Scot senior placed second in the 100-meter dash (10.81) and third in the 200-meter dash (21.66). The latter time was a provisional qualifier for the national meet and ranks him first in the MWC. The senior sprinter also ran legs on two Monmouth relay teams that captured second place with provisional- qualifying times. The 4x100 clocked a time of 41.85 and the 4x400 finished in 3:16.41. Becky Bessinger - Grinnell College - Sophomore Frankfort, Ky./Frankfort Bessinger set a new school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Saturday during the Cornell Invite, winning the event with a time of 11:58.75. Her final time broke the previous school record by nearly 28 seconds. Along with the steeplechase, the sophomore also took fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:33.17.

Field Billy Miller - Carroll College - Senior Winfield, Ill./Wheaton North

Miller put together one of the strongest meets of his career at the UW-Eau Claire Bluegold Invitational over the weekend. Miller set a new school record in the hammer throw and reached personal records in the javelin and shot put. He won the javelin competition with a throw of 177’ 04.00” and earned a pair of 11th place finishes in the hammer (143’ 07.00”) and shot put (42’08.25”). All three marks ranked among the top five in the MWC. Jenny Babos - Monmouth College - Junior Leland, Ill./Somonauk Babos starred at Western Illinois’ Lee Calhoun Memorial. The junior thrower placed second in the discus (an NCAA provisional mark of 139’11.00”) and added fifth-place finishes in the hammer throw (school-record 140’06.00”) and shot put (39’0.75”). Her hammer throw and discus marks are tops in the conference this season.

Week #4 : April 24 Track Luke Reschke - Monmouth College - Sophomore Geneseo, Ill./Geneseo Reschke won the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.81 at Saturday’s Benedictine Invitational. The sophomore also ran legs for two winning relay teams, the 4x100 and 4x400, as the Fighting Scots dominated the 20-team meet. The 4x100 squad was just a hundredth of a second off its season-best provisional-qualifying time. Reschke’s time in the 400 was tops in the MWC this season.

Shannon Turczyn - Monmouth College - Sophomore Peru, Ill./LaSalle-Peru Turczyn won the 100-meter hurdles in 14.70 at a 21-team meet in Lisle, Ill., on Saturday. The provisional-qualifying mark moves the All-American into the national top 10. She also ran a leg on the women’s third-place 4x100 team. The Scots relay team finished behind NCAA Division I and II squads, respectively, in the race. Turczyn’s time in the 100 hurdles placed her atop the conference rankings. Field Jeff Rebholz - Monmouth College - Senior Henry, Ill./Henry Rebholz moved to fourth-place in the national shot put rankings with his first-place heave of 54’05.25” at Benedictine’s 20-team meet on Saturday. Rebholz was just 18 inches shy of the NCAA provisional- qualifying distance in the discus, placing second at 154’04.00”, and he also took fifth in the hammer (150’01.00”). The senior owns the MWC’s top marks in the discuss and hammer throw. and conference-best mark of 12’05.75” at the Benedictine Invitational. The height automatically qualifies White for next month’s NCAA Division III National Championship meet.

Week #5 : May 1 Track Jeff Pentek - St. Norbert College - Junior Sheyboygan, Wis../Sheyboygan North Pentek provisionally qualified for the 2007 NCAA Championships in the 10,000-meter run at Saturday’s Private College Championships. The junior clocked in with a time of 30:33.08 to finish fourth and break his own school record. Pentek, who holds the top 5,000- and 10,000-meter times in the MWC this season, is currently ranked ninth on the NCAA Provisional List.

Erin Kelley - Carroll College - Junior Wales, Wis./Kettle Moraine Kelley won two individual events and anchored the Lady Pioneers winning 4x400 relay team to lead the Carroll women to a second- place finish at the Wisconsin Private College Championships. Kelley finished first in the 800-meter run (2:18.84) and 1,500 meter run (4:37.90), while helping clock a time of 4:10.31 in the relay race. The junior owns the MWC’s top times this year in the 1,500-meter and 800-meter races. Field Demba Camara - Ripon College - Sophomore Gambia/Sun Prairie At Saturday’s Wisconsin Private College Championships hosted by Carthage, Camara won the triple jump with a school record leap of 45’03.50”. The sophomore’s mark broke a 17-year old school record in the event and ranks second in the conference this season.

Jenni Marcell - Ripon College - Junior Mosinee, Wis./D.C. Everest Marcell won two events and placed in fourth in two others at Saturday’s Wisconsin Private College Championships. The junior thrower won the hammer throw with a school-record toss of 135’11.00” and also took home gold in the discus. She went on to place fourth in the javelin and shot put, posting career-best efforts in the javelin and discus. In the MWC this season, Marcell ranks second in the hammer, second in the javelin, third in the discus, and fourth in the shot put.

Week #6 : May 8 Track

Zach Barr - Monmouth College - Senior Roseville, Ill./Roseville Barr placed second in the steeplechase Saturday at a meet hosted by the University of Wisconsin. His season-best time of 9:19.49 is a NCAA National Championship provisional qualifier, moving him into the national top 20 rankings. With the effort, Barr improved on his own conference-best mark in the steeple chase this season.

Amy Thompson - Knox College - Senior Rollinsville, CO/Nederland Thompson recorded two career personal-records in the hurdle events and contributed to a pair of season-best relay efforts at Thursday’s Dubuque Open. Her time of 1:08.14 placed her third in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles and is the second-fastest time in the MWC this spring. The senior also ran a lifetime best of 17.75 in the 100-meter high hurdles to place sixth. In addition, she ran on the winning 4x400 relay team (4:20.19) and the third-place 4x100 relay team (53.29). Field Tim Frank - St. Norbert College - Senior Farmington, Ill./Farmington Frank posted his best high jump of the season Saturday, clearing 6’04.75” at the University of Wisconsin Twilight Meet. Frank also competed in the triple jump for the first time in his collegiate career, posting an unofficial mark of more than 42 feet that will likely make him a medal contender at this weekend’s conference championship meet. The senior owns the MWC’s top high jump mark this season.

Megan Maure - - Senior Elkhart, Ind./ Maure provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championships with a school-record effort of 136’06.00” in the javelin at the Wisconsin Twilight Meet in Madison on Saturday. Her toss ranks first in the MWC, ninth nationally in NCAA Division III and broke her own school record by three feet.
