Situated in the province of Munster, County Cork is the largest and southernmost county in Ireland. It is also the third most populated county in Ireland. The southwest region, including , is one of Ireland’s main tourist destinations. The county is sometimes known as the “People’s Republic of Cork” because of the county’s frontline role in the Irish War of Independence (1919-21).

Both Gaelic Football and Hurling are popular sports in County Cork, and the Cork teams are among the best in the country. The county colours are red and white, and the Gaelic Football and Hurling teams wear these colours when they play against other Irish counties.

County Cork has the only wildlife park in Ireland, Fota Wildlife Park located on Fota Island.
