Chester Hill yesterday….
The area that became Chester Hill was originally the southern part of John Thomas Campbell's Campbell Hill estate which covered 1000 acres in 1815 between Parramatta, Liverpool and Woodville roads (originally known as Dog Trap Road). East of Campbell Hill Road was Charles Fraser's 500 acre property and south of Waldron Road stood T.L. Spencer's land (Sefton Park).
Much of the land remained undeveloped until the first subdivisions were made in the early 1920's when the first shops were also built. An early market garden and orchard area north-west of Bankstown, Chester Hill developed into a residential and light industrial area after the Regents Park railway line came through in 1924.
The post office opened in July 1934 and the first public school in 1945.
How did Chester Hill get its name? When the Regents Park railway line was completed in 1924 a local resident, Miss H.A. McMillan put forward the name Hillcrest for the railway station. This name was Property on Virgil rejected, as was Hillchester, but an Road, Chester Hill inversion of the later - 'Chester Hill' 1946 was approved.

Major features of the area include Chester Square shopping centre, Abbot Park and a number of schools. There is also a retail precinct lining Waldron Road.
Amenities in the suburb include the Chester Hill branch of the Bankstown City Library, Chester Hill Fire Station and a community centre.
There are three schools in Chester Hill, including Chester Hill Public School, Chester Hill North Public School and Chester Hill High School. Chester Hill is also home to the main campus of Southern Cross College, a Pentecostal bible college.
Chester Hill is home to a number of parks including Frank Bamfield Oval, within the 'Terry Lamb Complex' and Abbott Park. The later park Located in the centre of Chester Hill is home to the Chester Hill Youth Cricket Club, Chester Hill Hornets Nugent Park serves as a place of Junior Rugby League club and the newly founded NSWRL Jim Beam remembrance to Australia's fallen as well Cup side the Chester Hill Rhinos. Other recreational amenities also as a place of rest. include an RSL club, bowling club and community garden.
