Chester Hill yesterday….

The area that became Chester Hill was originally the southern part of John Thomas Campbell's Campbell Hill estate which covered 1000 acres in 1815 between , Liverpool and Woodville roads (originally known as Dog Trap Road). East of Campbell Hill Road was Charles Fraser's 500 acre property and south of Waldron Road stood T.L. Spencer's land (Sefton Park).

Much of the land remained undeveloped until the first subdivisions were made in the early 1920's when the first shops were also built. An early market garden and orchard area north-west of , Chester Hill developed into a residential and light industrial area after the Regents Park railway line came through in 1924.

The post office opened in July 1934 and the first public school in 1945.

How did Chester Hill get its name? When the Regents Park railway line was completed in 1924 a local resident, Miss H.A. McMillan put forward the name Hillcrest for the railway station. Chester Hill is home to a number of parks including Frank Bamfield Oval, within the ' Complex' and Abbott Park.
