On the game’s opening drive, Buccaneers QB Josh Freeman and WR Vincent Jackson made quick work moving down the field, connecting three times for 49 yards, along with help from RB Doug Martin, who carried the ball in for the one-yard touchdown. With the score 7-0, the teams traded punts before Patriots QB Tom Brady was sacked by DE Michael Bennett, causing a fumble. Although New England recovered possession, Brady’s next pass was tipped by S Ronde Barber, allowing rookie first-round pick S Mark Barron to intercept the ball and return it 22 yards for another touchdown and the 14-0 lead. The Patriots answered on the following drive, as RB Stevan Ridley put together several rushes and the eventual one-yard score. After another Tampa Bay punt, New England was stopped on fourth-and-one, turning the ball over to the Buccaneers at the New England 41. The Buccaneers offense took advantage of the defense’s good work, putting together a drive that ended with a 56-yard field goal by K Connor Barth. As the clock wound toward the end of the first half, Tampa Bay, with possession of the ball again, put another three points on the board with a 51-yard field goal by K Kai Forbath, giving the Buccaneers a 20-7 lead at halftime. Forbath was able to show off his leg a second time following the break, this time completing a 55-yard attempt to make the score 23- 7. The Patriots responded with a touchdown drive, as Brady connected with TE Rob Gronkowski on a 16-yard touchdown pass at the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter opened with scoring drives for each team. Tampa Bay QB Dan Orlovsky first connected with WR Sammie Stroughter on an eight-yard touchdown pass, and then New England QB Ryan Mallett cut into the Buccaneers lead with a three-yard pass to WR Jeremy Ebert, bringing the score to 30-21. Following a Tampa Bay punt, the Patriots managed to score again, this time on a four-yard pass from Mallett to WR Jesse Holley. With only 45 seconds left in the game, New England attempted an onside kick, but Tampa Bay WR Tiquan Underwood recovered the ball, giving Orlovsky the chance to kneel and allow time to expire on the Buccaneers victory. 2 LAST MEETING (REGULAR SEASON) New England 35, Tampa Bay 7 October 25, 2009 LONDON – Playing out of the country for the first time in team history during the regular season, Tampa Bay trailed New England by two touchdowns in London as it entered the second half but was unable to cut into the lead.
