President’s Report

The Tanunda Cricket Club once again has had a very good season. We fielded five senior teams and four junior teams. The A1’s, A3’s and both the A4’s played in the final series and the A2’s only missed out by a mere 1.3 points. Congratulations to Matt Spackman and the A4 Blacks on an excellent season and winning the A5 premiership. Unfortunately the A3’s didn’t get a chance to bat in their Grand Final, where rain was the winner and Gilbert Valley was awarded the flag. The U16’s finished the season on top of the ladder in the minor round but lost their Grand Final, well done on your season Lads and a big thank you to many of you who played in the seniors.

Thank you to my hard working committee; Peter Goers, Sam Cox, Pete Mernagh, Melissa Roestenburg, Boh Wall, Paul Healy, Luke Samain, Chris Murphy, Brad Marshall, Josh Wells, Matt Spackman and George Akkerman. Your work behind the scenes often goes unnoticed but I know that a club that performs well off the field will reap the benefits on the field. Thank you to Pete Goers and Kym Vanstone for organizing our meals after training and Pete Mernagh for his bar duties and keeping the pavilion tidy, your work is surely appreciated. Thank you also to Shane Kinlock for running the net trainings each week.

Over the past few years Mel has been digging through old score books, end of year stats books, association records, library files and has compiled the past history of the club. As you are aware the Tanunda Cricket Club has ‘Life members’; Norm Gurr, Ray Giersch, Robert Homburg, Kevin Bartsch, Phil Hermann, Michael Schmidt, Peter Goers and Ron Bailey. These people have served the club both on and off the field for many years and worked tirelessly behind the scenes to keep our club running. In addition to ‘Life member’, status the committee decided that there was a need to recognize people who had played senior cricket for our club over a long period of time. It was devised that we start a separate award, ‘Player life membership’, for people who have played 150 senior games for our club. We are confident that we have recognized every player who has achieved this milestone after 1960, as you can appreciate pre 1960 records are very hard to trace. A huge thank you to Melissa and Pete for all their efforts in compiling this information.

Well done to Bradley Marshall and the junior committee for another very successful year fielding U16’s, U14’s and two U12 sides. Thank you to the junior coaches Brad Marshall, Matthew Radzevicius, Neil Burton and Craig Fielke; and all the parent helpers every week. The numbers at junior level indicate the strength of our club for future years.

Our major sponsor this season was the Clubhouse; their support together with BG Building Group, Rogash Windows, Turkey Flat and Kaesler Wines makes valuable contribution to the running of our club. A big thank you also to all our 100 and 250 club sponsors.

A GRADE PREMIERS 39/40 – 46/47 – 47/48 – 49/50 – 50/51 – 51/52 – 78/79 – 83/84 – 92/93 – 93/94 – 94/95 – 02/03 – 03/04 Tanunda Cricket Club Season 2009/2010

Thank you to Boh Wall our club coach for your efforts this season. Your pre game thoughts are well received and I know you are idolized by many of our junior players. Boh was awarded captain of the SA Outbacks side, played in the Barossa and Light Association Team and the Mid North side when he could. He also made the Australian country side as keeper / batsman . We are very lucky to have him as part of our club and hopefully soon he’ll get that illusive senior premiership at Tanunda.

Our turf wicket is receiving high regards from everyone who plays on it. Thank you to Darren Gladigau for your continued efforts as curator. Thank you also to Strength Mechanical for maintaining our equipment during the year and Ian Frick for his helping hand with fertilizing and spraying.

Thank you to each and every player who played for Tanunda this season. Well done to all the trophy winners especially those who won association awards.

It is an honor to be a part of this club, let alone be president of it. To field a side in every grade in seniors and juniors is a great achievement and something that will continue into the future. We have a good blend of experience and youth and the morale at our club is unmatched in this association. Thank you to everyone who contributed to our great club in any way this season.

The Committee, the Players and Supporters of the Tanunda Cricket Club would like to thank their most generous sponsors, who in the last few years have assisted in building the club to where we are today. Without their support, such things as the turf wicket, the bowling machine, new cricket equipment, sightscreens and shirts would not have been possible.

Season 2008/2009 Coaches Report

Spacks Blacks you beauty. A5 Premiers for 2009/2010 enough said. Well done to the A4 blacks on bringing home our only shield this season. Even though it would have been nice to win the A4’s, any grand final is worth winning and you blokes can certainly be proud of what you achieved this season.

Bloody rain. Why couldn’t it have waited another 24 hours? Bad luck but well done to Kym and the A3’s ‘Peoples Side’ for making another Grand Final. Who knows what could have been if you played on the Sunday but you definitely ‘had a crack’ on the Saturday and did well to keep Gilbert Valley’s A2 side to 210. It is pleasing to see so much youth in our A3 team, no offence Kym and Jon, and I hope some of these young stars can progress into the 1’s and 2’s in the coming seasons.

It is never nice when your season is decided by a single wicket or handful of runs. For the A1’s and A4 whites this was the case in both of their semi finals this season. Had the A1’s made 3 more runs and the whites taken 1 more wicket we would have had 4 teams playing on grand final weekend. It wasn’t to be but I hope all players involved in those 2 losses are keen to play next season and give their all to go 1, hopefully 2 steps further. There are so many if’s and but’s at the end of any cricket match and trust me I have been through every one possible for the A1 semi final loss. The fact is we finished 4th, finished higher than 4 other strong clubs and if keep a similar group together are very close to winning a Grand Final.

Unfortunately the A2’s didn’t see any finals action this season for the first time in quite a while. It came down to the last minor round game and a heart breaking 4 run loss to Sandy Creek meant they finished 5th. However all associated with the 2’s this season can be proud of their efforts and I’m sure if it wasn’t for a couple of unexpected losses early in the season finals cricket would have been played.

I have thoroughly enjoyed coaching the Tanunda Cricket Club over the last 4 seasons. I have got great reward in seeing blokes develop their cricketing ability and above all enjoy playing cricket for our cricket club. I believe the time is right to hand over the baton to someone else, therefore I will not be coaching in season 2010 / 2011. Thank you to Darren Graetz and the committee for giving me the opportunity and I hope the club continues to be strong on and off the field in the future.

Enjoy, don’t drink too many frothies over winter and I will catch you all when season 2010/11 comes around.

Boh Wall.

A1’s Captain’s Report

Well another season of the great game of cricket at the TCC comes to an end.

If the first and last games of the minor round were anything to go by you could suggest the A1’s had a forgettable season.

Inconsistent? Possibly. Forgettable? Certainly Not.

To cut a long story short we missed out on a Grand Final by three runs. That’s right, just one more good knick through slips and we would have been playing in our second two day Grand final in a row. It wasn’t to be but geez all 11 players involved in that semi final at Kapunda can be proud of themselves as they represented their club with great pride.

In what was a very even A1 competition the A1’s found themselves in 4th spot with 6 wins, 6 losses and 2 draws at the end of the minor round. We beat every side except Angaston, who we had two close losses to. Three wins in a row leading up to Christmas and two wins in a row against Sandy Creek and Gawler Centrals (who were top before we beat them) were the highlights of the season. However to lose the last two games of the minor round (against the bottom two sides) meant we weren’t able to push for a top 2 spot.

As a captain it is always great to have some up and coming young talent in your side. With the likes of Moschen and Loschen Boschen, Christian ‘Mick’ Gattermayr, John Justin, James Marshall and Tizza Nankeville all playing A1’s at some stage this season, we certainly have that. Hopefully these lads can develop to play lots of A1 cricket for TCC.

On the other hand it was ‘disappointingly soft’ of the few who decided it was too hard to play A1’s and challenge their ability. Yes it’s nice to stand out in a team and be the ‘main man’, but I guess we don’t all play for team success and we have five senior sides to fill each week so these few were good for making sure we had no forfeits this season.

It was also great to have the return of club legend Matty ‘Dart em Up’ Whitelum this season. Along with ‘Roger Ramjet’ Hartigan, ‘Uncle’ Toby Mifflin and Eddy ‘G Unit’ Geidel, Matty gave the team great experience and was a great help to me as captain. Another positive for the team was having Baz ‘Luhrmann’ Kaesler available after Christmas. Baz is certainly an A1 player and in the 5 or 6 games he played he showed us why.

A GRADE PREMIERS 39/40 – 46/47 – 47/48 – 49/50 – 50/51 – 51/52 – 78/79 – 83/84 – 92/93 – 93/94 – 94/95 – 02/03 – 03/04 Tanunda Cricket Club Season 2009/2010

I look forward to the likes of ‘Twiggy’ Schwartzkopff, ‘Horny’ Strawny, Shaun ‘Shakka’ Akkerman, Justin ‘Chest’ Ward and possibly some lads who played lower grades this season becoming great A1 players at the TCC and being regular members of the side.

I believe if we can keep a similar playing group together for next season and possibly recruit a player or two we can go two steps further. However if we had our best 11 available more often this season perhaps we could have finished higher than 4th and could have made, if not won, the Grand Final.

So thank you to all 24 players who played A1’s this season. I understand cricket can be a hard game to commit to and enjoy sometimes but surely playing and winning finals makes it all worthwhile.

Boh ‘Muscles’ Wall.

A2’s Captain’s Report

What a great opportunity missed. With the A1 Reserves being formed and our past history as an A2 side, I thought we should have played in the finals this year. As a first year captain it was very disappointing, but having said that, I learnt a lot and enjoyed the challenge and experience involved in taking on this role. Thanks for everyone’s support.

Our year started off poorly with some early losses putting us behind the eight ball and in hindsight, probably costing us a finals spot. We finished with 7 wins and 6 losses missing the finals by 1.4 point.

Our bowling and fielding again was our strength with Paul Healy being the stand out bowler. He took 29 wickets for the season, including a 6 for 33 against Angaston and a 10 wicket haul against South Gawler with a 7 for 15 included in that. Well done Wilbur. The rest of the bowling was shared around with Dan Schilling taking 18 wickets and myself taking 19 wickets. Josh West also took a 5 for 34 against Gawler Centrals.

Our batting again was a little disappointing. There were a few scores over 50 but no one went on to make a ton. Scoring only twice over 200 run and only two batters scoring more than 200 for the season shows there is room for improvement.

It was great to see players like Dan Schilling, Shane Dalby, The Boschens and Jimmy Marshall have a crack in the 2’s. I hope they continue to play at a higher level.

To everyone who played in the 2’s, thank you for all your efforts and lets all get back next year to have a real crack at a premiership.

Cheers

Peter Mernagh A2 Captain

A3’s Captain’s Report

It is amazing what can happen when you set out to achieve some goals. At the start of the season, we all set ourselves both individual and team goals which, in most part we were able to achieve.

To reach the Grand Final 2 years in a row is an awesome effort and there is no reason why will not be able to reach a Grand Final again next year.

Once again, it was really pleasing to see the fantastic attitude and commitment of the U16’s who trained with the seniors this season. They were at just about every Tuesday and Thursday training without fail. It was a pleasure to have some of these up and coming cricketers in the A3’s this season and I look forward to seeing them again next year.

Here is a bit of a snapshot of the way it was this year.

Jon (Dalai Lama) Jon set himself a goal of 6 sixes and 600 runs. He hit 10 sixes in total and made 636 not including his ton in an A grade game. His mentor role to the junior members in the side has been so important. His 130 run partnership with Tizza as well as the opening partnership with Dylan Abinett against Light Pass in the Semi-Final was a highlight for him.

Dylan (Dylchamp) Abinett has turned himself around from being a medium pace bowler to opening batsmen & spin bowler. Both of which, I think you will succeed at very well next season.

Rowan (Shane Ellen) Miegel – You finally made your first century. May this be the first of many!!! I still might bowl you more next year so you can get rid of the Shane Ellen tag.

Sam (Aussie Bob) Tarca – The ever reliable opening bowler. I said last season that it was the best I have seen you bowl. I was wrong !!! This year you have bowled better for less wickets – You softened up the batsmen for another member of our side !!! Your contribution with the bat was pretty good too and I hope there will be more runs next year

Josh (No! Amelia) West. Thanks for being captain when I wasn’t able to be there during the season as well getting so close to your first ton. I may bowl more than 2 overs in a row next season.

Tieran (Tizza I know I have spelt your last name wrong) Nankivelle played most of the season with us at number 4 and had some great partnerships with Jon and a few other members of the team. It will be great to have Tizza in my side again next year, but something tells me that he will be playing a in a higher grade next year.

Lachie (Balboa) Richter has shown this year what a valuable a member to Tanunda TCC he will be and of course the A3’s. Your pinch hit batting at no. 8 has been terrific, your bowling has been good and your fielding has been outstanding – You will be the next Josh West (Or Michael Clarke according to JF)

Dan (Shaun Tait, Wild Thing, I just want to get my Uncle out) Marshall showed us what a great potential he is just by shortening his run up. I cannot wait for next season to watch you bowl.

Nick (Frud) Murphy was a person last year that I said I was most impressed with. You took 40 wickets for the season. You have proved that you deserve to be played in a higher grade. I have taken away many fond memories and stumpings this season.

I would also like to thank many of the other players who have helped out this season such as Wayne Akkerman, Sam Arthur, Parker Neldner, Sam O’Toole, Tommy Ellis, Steve Lewis and everyone else who played in the ‘Peoples Team’

Once again it has been a very enjoyable year and I very much look forward to next season.

Cheers

Kym Farley

A4 Black’s Captain’s Report

Well fellow Magpies yet another great season has been and gone and one we will remember. I would like to start by thanking my fellow committee members for another successful season. A big thanks to coach Boh for your support throughout the year. Behind the scenes, thanks to bar man Pistol Pete, cooks Pete and Owly, Thursday night chief Danger and curator Darren. A huge thanks to Mel for taking care of all our stats. That’s a huge effort.

This year the blacks welcomed some new players to our ranks. Ryan Shepley, Cory Roehr, Jeremy Miles and Simon Leske all playing major roles through the year. Other big contributors were Luke Schuster, Kevin Barry and Pete Blackburn. All new players had great years and I hope to see ya all out next year to give it another big crack. Congratulations goes to the A1s, A3s and A4 whites for making finals unlucky you couldn’t bring another flag home. A great effort to the A2s just missing out.

This year we finished the minor round with 14 games played, 7 wins, 7 loses, 5 forfeits, 1 wash out and 1 bye leaving us finishing 5th, just half a game out of the 4’s finals. This also set up yet another semi final against our old foes Gawler Centrals. 3rd year in a row we have meet them in a semi final losing the last 2.

Before I go on to that there were some great individual achievements through the year starting with Hokey’s 108 against Gawler Centrals early in the year which set up a great year for him with the bat making 480 runs. Steve Mattner also had a good year making 262 and averaging 87. I also found some form with the bat making 390 runs at 32.5. With the ball I have to start with myself with a 7 for 23 against Light Pass (my first 5 fa). Nat Steinert had another great year with the ball finishing with two 5 fa bowling spells. Cory Roehr 12 wickets, and Luke Schuster 8 wickets bowled great as well.

One point I will make is how great our fielding was during the year. Dropping stuff all catches and eight run outs through the year. A fantastic year in the field finishing the last four games (including finals) not having 100 runs hit off us and bowling all sides out early. One last mention to my keeper Josh Wells. I struggled to find a keeper early in the year and you put your hand up. You were fantastic behind the stumps and it was a pleasure to play with you this year.

Back to the semi final against Gawler Centrals. I selected a side which I hoped could finally beat them. Going with Nat, Wallie, Goatie, M Spacky, Hokey, B Spacky, Simo, Roy, Sheps, Jez and Wellesy. Winning the toss I chose to bat. After 6 overs we were 3 for 10, not the best start. A game saving partnership between myself and Hokey got the score up to 146 after our 40 overs on a VERY slow Lyndoch Oval. Bowling there was one star, Nat the destroyer picking up 5 wickets. We bowled them out for 45 and on to a grand final next week against Angaston.

An unchanged side meet Angaston on Nuriootpa 2 oval. Won the toss again and the top order batters did the job. Leading the way with a man of the match 47 was Goatie. Wallie 34, Hokey 37, me 26 and Ben 19. We made 179. In to the field we went felling very confident. Early overs pined them down and having them 5 wickets down for 41 runs after 20 overs. I was a very happy captain. Most guys got a bowl. Wallie and Hokey finishing with 2 wickets. We got 3 run outs and bowled them out for 92. A premiership for a great bunch of guys and the Tanunda Cricket Club.

On finishing I would like to thank the entire Tanunda Cricket Club for all of your support. This will be my last year as captain. I look forward to next season and good luck to everybody through the footy season.

A4 White’s Captains Report

Well another year of bruises, Friday and Sunday morning hangovers and anything else a Tanunda cricket club season has to throw our way.

Well not much changed towards the after grand final shed ritual, Kym is still well in charge of his troops, God help us all if the A3’s actually win the thing

Congratulations to the A4 Blacks on their grand final win, it was well deserved as they were the best team going into the finals with good winning form, they probably should have been in the A4’s finals but for some wet weather and a rather confusing ruling from the association’s powers that be.

Congratulations also to the other 4 senior sides who all bowed out with a heartbreak story to tell especially the A3’s, I think it would be fair to say all Tanunda cricketers felt for the boys while the rain was coming down on that Sunday, I think we all have unfinished business next year

On to the A4 Tanunda White’s season. The season started with undermanned side that played last year’s A4 premiers in Gawler Central who got off to a real flyer { 36 after 3 overs } but good tight bowling kept the total in check at all out for 126 , Dave showed that he was in for a good year with 55 and had an opening stand of 94 with Mieg’s but unfortunately the boys came up 2 runs short The next game we had a really good win against a pretty handy Nuri team holding them to 121 with the old workhorse Mieg’s showing he still has it with 5/19 , in the chase Dave got a handy 33 at the top but it was Brad and Owly who got us over the line against a seasoned bowling side Our next few games we had good wins starting against Angaston with the stars being D.J radar working 3/14 with the ball and a pretty even batting effort with mostly everyone contributing. George got his season aggregate to 2 so all good at this time, then another good win against Greenock bowling them for 103 with the old workhorse 4/0 and 57. He needs to be swabbed. Needless to say an easy win. A quick mention on our next game against Freeling where we went down in a close finish by 7 runs in a high scoring game Meig’s and Sven getting 3 and 4 for with the ball but the star being Dave with 81 in pretty hot conditions. Freeling went on to win the A4 comp so pretty good effort in hindsight . Then we get to a most enjoyable win against Light Pass who was determined to play in rain that would have made footy hard to play in let alone cricket. We bowled but most of our bowlers with any run up couldn’t bowl so I gave the ball to our own Michael Holding, Lois of 2 steps Neldner, who turned back the clock and got 5 for 45 { 2 overs too many went for 30, great call captain } Well done mate. With the chase it was Light Pass’s time in the wet with you guessed it with plenty of questioning of the wet weather especially when we looked in charge, chasing 164. Steady batting got us to 7 for 128 but a special partnership by Owly {36} and Samy sledger { for a junior

playing only his 2nd game he had some beauties for our friends at Light Pass} got us over the line well done boys that one was sweet . The next 3 games saw us struggle a bit with a win against the bottom team Eudunda, a close loss to Truro and a pretty disappointing loss to Kapunda, no real star performers through those games to report about except for a couple of old stagers making runs against Truro , which brings me to the next 2 games against the old foe on either side of Xmas. A 20/20 before Xmas had interest levels up with those Tanunda boys from the black { dark } side getting off to a flyer but good tight bowling from our boys the white { bright } side held them to 105 { the star being Owly 5/14 }, unfortunately a steady loss of wickets and a climbing run rate saw the old foe finally get one over us. We then played off again after Xmas in a more suitable 40 over format ,we batted first and made a pretty modest 134 with no real stars batting wise , it looked as though Spacky was going bring the boys from the dark side home with some good batting but some good bowling at the end from Jimmy { duck 1 week score the next} and that old Michael Holding look alike {Louis 2 steps Neldner} got the good guys over the line . Everyone involved made these 2 games very enjoyable to play in with both games played in great spirit well done all and just in case anyone wanted to know the head to head 3 / 1 to the good guys

OK enough gloating, they did win the flag. Over the next few games we had a couple of good wins over Angaston & Greenock with Jimmy finding some great form with the ball getting 5 against Greenock and starting the game against Angaston with 2 wickets with the first two balls of the game and from memory the 3rd ball hit the edge and fell short at 2nd slip well done mate. The next game I don’t really want to report about but I think it would be fair to say we were beaten by a far better side { OK we were thrashed } against Freeling We had a loss against Light Pass at Stocky which I think really cost us badly towards making the final 4 which was disappointing, Dave had a good game with 54 and Spud had a good day with the ball. OK now we get to our trip to Eudunda where I had to put up with 10 fellow so called team mates. The things this poor skipper has to put with. We batted first and scored a modest 133 with Dave again showing the way with 47. On the bowling side Fleetwood Mac got 3 good wickets and Spud also chipped in with 3 or should that have been 4. Hum, let’s give you all my side of the facts , the lesser batsman hit a skier that Blind Freddy could have caught but thinking outside the square I efficiently dropped this to make sure that the better batsman was run out {so there you 10 so called team mates}. A Draw against Truro does not need reporting other than everyone involved would agree the association has made a very controversial ruling that may bite them on the backside in the future {well batted Brad with a 47 not out} The last game saw us against Kapunda, we were pretty much out played throughout but for a brilliant 92 from Twiggy well batted mate Onto the semi final against Angaston where we batted first and made 132, a modest score but should have been enough unfortunately 8 dropped catches later and the rest is history Angaston winning in the last over with their last wicket { hum unfinished business }

In finishing I have decided to stand down as captain and would like to thank sincerely the usual suspects Boh, Prez and Spudly who’s tireless efforts made sure everyone got a game each week, also a special mention to Sammy, Parker, Lachie, Jimmy and any other under 16 player I have missed for helping fill our team, the club is in good hands with some real talent coming through, and finally everyone who has ever had to put up with my confusing at times field placements, bowling changes and batting line-ups

It’s been a hoot

Till next year when we do it all again

Go the Power

George

Junior President Report

Another successful season in participation, the numbers continue to be strong, particularly the U12’s and IN2CRICKET. We again fielded 2 x U12 teams and Mathew Whitelum co-ordinated the IN2CRICKET this year as he did with KANGA cricket last year. Big thanks to Matt for his efforts. Matt won’t be doing it again next year as he would like to be more involved with the U12’s. I would like to take this opportunity to invite any interested parties who want to become involved with IN2CRICKET. Please feel free to talk to Matt or myself about what’s involved, I’m sure he will be accommodating. The kids are the future of our club and we need to continue to meet the challenges and keep as many kids involved as possible. The Barossa and Light cricket association are looking at an under 10 carnival next year to try and bridge the gap between IN2CRICKET and U12’s.

Craig Fielke, Erich May and Neil Burton looked after the 2 under 12’s teams and both had a very successful year with the black team being undefeated again this season and the U12’s had their showdown at the picturesque Chateau Tanunda. Hamish Fielke was selected in an U12 Association team against the Northern Jets.

The Under 14’s year had a competitive year with Phillip Herd making the association country cup team, thanks to Mike Herd and Shane Pudney for their effort.

The U16’s had a very good season finishing minor premiers, unfortunately were unable to perform on Grand final day but can take many positives out of the year. Trent Goers, Josh Hancock and James Marshall made the U16 association country cup team. Trent going on to be selected in the State under 15 boys Cricket Championship played in Campbelltown NSW.

Off the field, we again had a successful year with breakfast being sold at home games, keeping the club financially healthy. Thanks to all parents, friends, care-givers and families for helping with BBQ, transport and training. Still would be great to see some more parents involved in the committee. I know we will have a few of the committee stand down next season, so please consider taking up a position. Many hands make light work. Even If you don’t know anything about cricket, get involved, it’s amazing how rewarding it can be. Please look out for AGM details later in the year as new people and new ideas are always welcome.

Finally a huge thanks to the junior committee for their commitment and support, it really has been a team effort. We really need some more parents to get involved for the club to continue to be successful.

Yours in Cricket

Bradley Marshall Junior President
