We welcome players, management and supporters for what should be an entertaining local derby. Although a tight affair in previous fixtures with each other, we hope to conclude our campaign with a win to finish the season as high as we can, and hopefully other results will help us along the way. Well done to Gary Lines, Paul Marsh, Jack Swinson, Dan Yates and players for producing such a magnificent run of form and CHAIRMAN’S finishing the season so well. With the poor weather in the final stages of the season we needed CHAT to extend our ground license, and would like to pass on thanks to the Parish Council and Recreational Grounds Committee for their co-operation in giving us permission to enable this morning’s fixture to be played. These notes are written before our Division Two Cup final at Pagham - against League champions-elect, Rustington — who already have the Sussex Intermediate Cup won. We have a proud recent history in the Division Two Cup, and hope we can bring the silverware back to Walton Lane, having previously won the competition twice in the last three seasons. Ben Jones’ U13’s side ended their first season together improving week-on-week and putting in spirited displays which I’m sure you will agree have been a joy to watch if you have been able to get down and see them play. Our U18’s recorded their first win in the SCFL at the end of April against Worthing Town, turning a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 victory - courtesy of a last-minute winner through Harry Lidster. They played their last fixture yesterday (06/05) at East Preston. Our thanks to our youth management of Ben, Leon, Rick and Chris alongside the support of Nicki Webb and all the parents throughout the season. Our reserves also completed their season in the Wyvern East on Saturday (05/05) at home to Baffins Milton Rovers on the back of two consecutive victories against Folland Sports and in which we beat third in the league Fareham Town not least (Bosham left back should have got MOM). Well done Desi and the lads and especially the U18’s who have been turning out week in week out and had a tough lesson in their first season in senior football. We hope to see the likes of Harley Redman, Harry Spicer, Lewis Rustell, Harry Lidster and Max Terry push on from this season’s youth set-up and transition into the adult game - this can only help them develop further as players technically but mentally too. After today, it’s on to our end of season presentation, on Friday 18th May at Southbourne Club. We look forward to seeing as many of you there with friends and family to celebrate the season. We will also be holding an invitational six-a-side at Walton Lane on the 3rd June as a joint fundraiser for the Club and Sussex Snowdrop Trust, with more details published shortly on the club website. Thanks again to the committee, playing management, players, supporters and sponsors for this season and we look forward to seeing you again in 2018/19. Neil Redman

Good morning everyone, and welcome to Walton Lane for today’s SCFL Division Two fixture against Sidlesham. We extend a warm welcome to our near neighbours - their players, management, officials and supporters—and to match referee, Neal Saxton. The last time we were here at Walton Lane I saw the boys put on a phenomenal second half performance to win 6-0 against Clymping. It was great to get a bit of payback for earlier in the season. Some debut goals too from Matt Andrews and Max Smith. Both players we’ve brought in for the end of the season and they BETWEEN haven’t disappointed, they’ve put some great performances in. THE We then followed this up with a fantastic 2-0 win at Roffey— who LINES had previously gone undefeated at home all season—and we barely put a foot wrong against a very organised side, I only wish we took more chances we could have come away with three or four more goals. Then on to Worthing Town - a difficult pitch to play on but Alex Barnes gave us the goal we needed to win that match. You can’t always win pretty though and I’m glad we got the three points there which keeps us challenging. Derby days always make for special occasions and I am sure today will be no different—Sidlesham are looking to gain promotion so it’s imperative we start with a high tempo, match them for effort, and take the game to them. We should have taken all three points just before Christmas in the reverse fixture, with Callum Coker and Brad Miles missing some great chances. The boys have worked very hard and showed great attitude over the past few months, but we’ll have to be at our best today to stop a side who have climbed to second in the table and beat leaders Rustington last time out. I’ve penned these notes before Thursday’s cup final which is massive for all at the club —and having played Cowfold on Saturday, we finish today with three games in the space of six days. But since a tough start to the season, we haven’t really looked back and really found our form, with some brilliant results against top teams in the division, It’s been quite a season, and hopefully we can sign-off with a win. Thanks for your support and ‘Up the Robins!’ Gary Lines

A second-half Alex Barnes strike helped guide Bosham to another important win as the SCFL season entered its final week with the Robins maintaining their excellent recent run of form. Both sides set out to find an early advantage and hosts went close after only a few minutes when Steve Warr had a pop from distance only to see his effort sting the cross bar with reds keeper, Kieran Magee, glad to see the strike eventually cleared from danger. The blues continued their bright start and next Isaac Allen had a golden chance to break the deadlock when in front of goal, and an empty net, but was unable to get a toe to a low cross leaving Bosham to heave another sigh of relief. Bosham started to find their feet and captain marvel, Bradley Miles, was instrumental in all that the visitors could come up with. Indeed a lovely ball from Miles found the dangerous Barnes a short time later but, under pressure, his eventual shot went narrowly wide. The Bosham defence looked strong with Matt Docherty and the superbly energetic Pat Bulbeck at the heart of things. Bulbeck would make surging runs into the opposition half to cause panic for the blues and they now entered a period of play looking to absorb Bosham pressure and try to hit them on the counter. Close to the half hour it almost worked as a quick break saw the ball eventually lofted over the top and Lloyd Chapman darted onto it and unleashed a tremendous volley from wide right but Magee made no mistake in pouching the effort and springing Bosham out on another foray up the field. Jack Hardman, a player for Bosham who has shown great improvement through the campaign, then went close with a volley of his own as the half ended goal less with both sides frustrated at the lack of quality in the final third. The second half was only a few minutes old when a moment of magic finally broke the deadlock. The Worthing defence was pierced by Barnes and he let fly with a cross come shot that keeper, Paul Woodley, was not expecting and the effort flew over his head and into the far corner for Bosham to take a deserved lead. Bosham continued to press and created a host of chances to add to their lead but couldn’t take then. Good defensive work kept the hosts at bay, particularly near the end when a succession of free kicks were awarded but a lack of quality let the blues down. Overall an encouraging performance from the Robins on a difficult surface, that leaves them well set for both their League Cup final against Rustington, and final two league fixtures against Cowfold and Sidlesham, respectively. Bosham: Magee, Bulbeck, A. Smith, Hardman, James, Docherty, Radmore, Coker, Miles, Andrews, Barnes. Subs: Edgington, Wilson, Marsh, Jepson.

Sidlesham Football Club were club were formed in 1921 but folded in 1930s due to financial problems, only to reform immediately after the Second World War. They joined the Sussex County League Division Three in 1991, winning the league title in 1997 and were promoted to Division Two. Two years later, after winning Division Two, they reached the top division, finishing fifth in 2002–03, the same season they recorded their best effort in the FA Vase when they got to the Second Round. However, they finished bottom of Division One two seasons later and were then relegated from Division Two in 2008–09, finishing mid-table in 2009–10 in Division Three. Two seasons later they finished bottom of Division Three and were relegated to the West Sussex League, but they were promoted straight back up to the Sussex County League Division Three, after finishing sec- ond in the West Sussex League. Sids were crowned Division Three champions in 2012–13, but the club did not obtain promotion. The 2013–14 season brought a fifth-place finish, but they earned promotion to Division Two after finishing runners-up in2014–15. The following season, the club finished in a respectable eleventh spot, but were demoted back to Division Three (now Southern Combination Division Two) for ground grading reasons. Recent improvements to both their floodlights and main stand should see the club eligible for a return to Division One in the future. FIRST TEAM FIXTURES & RESULTS
