CURLING ANNOUNCES ITS 2020-’21 SEASON SCHEDULE

Curling Alberta is excited to release the postponed event dates and the complete provincial schedule for the 2021 championship season. In response to the outbreak of COVID-19, Curling Alberta was forced to postpone five provincial championships and their qualifying events. Although and the World Curling Tour have decided to cancel the remaining championships in the 2020 season, Curling Alberta will push ahead to hopefully determine a 2020 Alberta champion in all categories. As such, the outstanding events have been rescheduled for late summer and early fall. Of course, we will continue to monitor the relevant health and safety guidance, and share return to play guidelines as they become available to ensure we are only playing if and when it is safe to do so. Our sincere thanks to all those who make our competitions possible even in these unprecedented times, and to our athletes for their patience and support while we worked to reschedule. We’ll keep you posted with any updates. 2019-’20 POSTPONED EVENT SCHEDULE EVENT DATES LOCATION WITHDRAWAL DEADLINE U21 Mixed Doubles Provincial August 27-30, 2020 Leduc C.C. Some important notes: • Registration for the postponed events will not be opened again. If teams wish to withdraw, they should contact Curling Alberta in writing to request a refund before the stated withdrawal deadline. • After surveying participants in the Curling Club Championship category, Curling Alberta has decided to cancel all qualifying events in favour of an open championship which will be co-hosted by the Avonair Curling Club and the Thistle Curling Club in . Not only did this change reduce the burden on our host clubs, but it will allow for more players to experience a provincial championship, and provide an opportunity to bring more of us together in celebration of our sport and resiliency (of course, as safe). • Remember that although changes to the roster are not encouraged, Curling Alberta recognizes that not all curlers may be available on the new dates. In consideration of this, the substitution and replacement policy will be relaxed for the following categories: Wheelchair, Mixed, U15, and U21 Mixed Doubles. Please click here for details specific to each category.

On the next page are the list of dates and locations for Curling Alberta sanctioned events for the 2021 championship season. Once again, registration will open on the Curling Alberta website in the fall when we have a strong indication that the events will proceed. Keep your eyes on our website and social media for updates through out the summer!

The updated 2020-’21 Competitor’s Guide and related appendices will be released in the near future.
