§ Description of Waste Water Works: The Shanganagh Catchment is contained entirely within the municipal boundaries of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, and is entirely the latter’s responsibility for operating, maintaining and upgrading; the catchment is approximately 7.5km long, stretching from west (Stepaside) to east (Killiney) to the coast and 3.5km wide from north to south, occupying a strip in the middle third of the county, and occupies approximately a quarter of the counties geographical area, being primarily a built up urban environment, with rural settings south and For inspection purposes only. west of the Shanganagh river caConsenttchm ofen copyrightt. owner required for any other use. The foul sewer network within the catchment transfers waste water discharges from residential, commercial and industrial communities to the existing Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) located in the townland of Shanganagh, where preliminary treatment (grit removal and screening) of sewage is carried out before it is discharged to sea via a long sea outfall (1.7km). Throughout the foul network a series of strategic overflows are in place, which generally only become operational either when there is a significant rainfall event and the capacity of the combined sewer network gets exceeded, or there is a blockage in the network downstream of the overflow.

§ Location of Waste Water Works Discharges: Primary Discharge point: is at the end of a 1.7km long sea outfall originating from Shanganagh WWTP, discharging into Killiney Bay

Secondary Discharges: short sea outfall from Shanganagh WWTP; Larger Pumping Station (P.S.) / Emergency Overflows including: Bullock Harbour P.S short sea outfall (Bullock townland), Killiney P.S short sea outfall (Killiney townland), Coliemore P.S short sea outfall ( townland).

EPA Export 25-07-2013:23:34:44 Several other smaller Pumping Station (P.S.) / Emergency Overflows are located at various strategic locations throughout the county.

Storm and Combined Sewer Overflows: there are many of these positioned at strategic locations throughout the county.

An EIS applicable to the future upgrade of Shanganagh Wastewater Treatment Works is being submitted with this license application.

Copies of license application, EIS and any additional information supporting this application, submitted to the EPA, shall be made available for inspection, at the EPA’s headquarters (Environmental Protection Agency, An Ghníomhaireacht um Chaomhnú Comhshaoil, P.O. Box 3000, Johnstown Castle Estate, County Wexford), and within the Water Services section of Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council offices (see address at beginning of this notice).

DLRCC’s WWDL will be formally lodged with the EPA by no later than Fri 14th Dec 2007, following which submissions by members of the general public can be made to the Agencies headquarters.
