SYDNEY INTERNATIONAL FIFA FAN FEST™ WORLD CUP CELEBRATIONS

The FIFA World Cup in will be officially launched with an Australian flavour tonight as NSW hosts the International FIFA Fan Fest™ live site at Darling Harbour.

Sydney is one of six exclusive international host sites - including , , , and . Sydney is the only city in the Asia-Pacific region.

The live site is part of an exciting range of events organised by the NSW Government giving soccer fans coverage of the FIFA World Cup™ from tonight until Monday 12 July 2010. It will also beam images of Sydney worldwide to fan sites across the globe.

The opening ceremony of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ will be broadcast live from South Africa at 10.00pm tonight on four giant screens – three on floating stages in Cockle Bay and one in Tumbalong Park.

Premier Kristina Keneally and Minister for Major Events, Kevin Greene, today put the finishing touches on preparations for the Sydney International FIFA Fan Fest™.

Minister for Major Events, Kevin Greene, encouraged people planning to go to the Sydney International FIFA Fan Fest™ site to take public transport.

“The FIFA World Cup will be watched by millions of people across the globe,” Mr Greene said.

“We want to make sure Sydneysiders and visitors get to experience the World Cup right here in Australia.

“This is about putting Sydney and Australia firmly on the international football map – particularly as we make our bid to host the FIFA World Cup.

“The best way to get to the event is to leave the car at home and take public transport. Additional trains and buses will be operating to ensure fans can get to and from the event.”

As part of the major event at Darling Harbour:

• 64 World Cup games will be broadcast at 9:30pm, Midnight and 4:30am; • Matches will be replayed; • Interactive family activities; • Kids football activities with Football Federation Australia; • Freestyle football displays; • Four giant screens including: Cockle Bay Main Screen , two Cockle Bay Side Screens and the Tumbalong Park screen; • Fun competitions for the public to join in; • Headline entertainment acts throughout the four weeks; • Variety of multicultural cuisines will be available in the precinct. • International FIFA Fan Fest™ Global Sponsors are Coca-Cola, Emirates, Hyundai and Sony

Australia’s first match is scheduled for Monday 14 June against , and will take place at 4:30 am AEST, which is the Queen’s Birthday public holiday.

There will be free entry to the official Sydney International FIFA Fan Fest TM site. It is a licensed venue. No BYO alcohol will be allowed.

Police and security will be working at the live site and all fans attending will be subject to bag searches.
