Upcoming Events

•SOB Meeting th  Camper of the Month  Sun. January 14 12:00pm th On December 19 I got a call that I wasn't expecting. It was from one of our original campers/staff members. His parents Joe and Holly Wallace were one of the original families to found Shady Oaks Camp. In fact, Jim told me his dad Joe, signed the original check to purchase the property we sit on today!  •Board of Directors Meeting th Jim's has accomplished so much during his life and his story is fascinating & Sun. January 14 inspiring! I was honored and humbled to have talked to Jim. 1:00pm Some of his story is written below, but you can read more at https://weseeyouchicago.com/2016/03/10/jim/

Never one to let cerebral palsy stop him from achieving whatever he set his mind to, Jim graduated from college with a double major in theatre and •SOC Holiday Party th sociology, enjoyed a 42-year government career in public housing and today Sat. January 6 stays actively involved with community service through the Knights of 12:00pm Columbus.

As a teenager, Jim attended Spalding School, the first elementary and high school in Chicago developed specifically for students with disabilities. His mother and father were instrumental in forming a nursery at the school.

During the late 70s, Jim was part of a class action lawsuit to provide equal access to Metra rail cars. Today, every Metra train has at least one rail car with a lift for those who are motor-challenged. Jim is a proud user of the lift that he helped design when he travels by train to the Goodman Theatre, where he is an annual subscriber.

Jim is called to help others as modeled by his parents. During his teenage years, he worked at the Shady Oaks Camp for children with cerebral palsy, which his parents co-founded in Homer Glen in the 1940s. He started as a camper, served as counselor and worked up to Happy administrator. Jim also is an active member of the Knights of Columbus, the world’s largest fraternal Catholic New service organization. He has achieved fourth degree status and was recently elected as Year an officer for the Knights of Columbus and elevated to the status of Sir Knight.

 Fundraising 

We are partnering with polar engraving to sell engraved bricks for this memorial walkway. 4 x 8 bricks will be $100.00 ($115.00 if you would like a replica mini brick) and can be purchased through the polar engraving camp website http://www.polarengraving.com/ShadyOaksCamp. 100% of profits will go to support SOC!

By purchasing a brick, you will not only be immortalizing your occasion or loved one, but also be providing much needed funds to SOC. Bricks may also be customized to include your business logo or other graphic image from a catalog of clip art.

Shady Oaks Camp Daily Pick 3 Raffle

1000 tickets will be sold numbered 000-999

Tickets are $10 each

Every day during the month of February 2018, the Daily Game (evening Drawing) numbers are picked. Whoever has that EXACT number is the winner for that day. The payout is $100 per day and $150 on Sundays. Not bad for a $10 ticket!! Also, if the same number is pulled during the month (and yes, it happens) you win again! You have to match the numbers in the Exact order and not in reverse or any other combination. Example, If 258 is pulled, only 258 wins (not 285, 528, 852 etc.) We will keep track of the drawing every day. One ticket gives you 28 chances to win!!
