Buisson Creates National Record in 2008 against Henderson State

In addition to breaking or tying seven UAM records in 2008, Scott Buisson also made headlines at the conference and national levels.

Most of the attention was due to arguably one of the most impressive individual performances at any level of NCAA football.

On September 20, 2008 in Arkadelphia, Ark., Buisson put on a show that will live forever in the memories of those who bore witness, lead- ing the Weevils to a 51-48 win over the Henderson State Reddies.

The sophomore quarterback seemed to have no flaws on this Saturday evening, especially in the first half. The Boll Weevils were tearing apart the defense and Buisson was up to his usual tactics - speeding past chasing defenders and hooking up with receivers for deep passes when the defense would start to cheat in. He was on a roll, and even completed his first 20 passes of the game, tying an all-time NCAA Division II record. It was the final two plays of the first half until a Buisson pass fell to the ground after back-to-back incompletions to Tim Harris in the corner of the sent Buisson into the locker room completing 20-of-22 passes in the first half.

That was only the start of it... Buisson and the Weevils came roaring out the locker room on a mission and the Reddies were up the test. This offense-happy match up finished up with a combined total between the two squads of 1,262 yards of total offense.... The neat part - Buisson was solely responsible for more than half.

The Metaire, La. native, nicknamed “Houdini” by his teammates, finished the event as the first player at any NCAA level to throw for at least 400 yards and rush for at least 200 yards in a game with 424 passing yards with five touchdowns and 216 rushing yards with two touchdowns, including an 89-yard TD scamper on UAM’s first offensive play of the game.

Buisson’s total of 640 yards of total offense ranked fourth on the NCAA D2 charts and 15th at all levels and broke the GSC single-game re- cord of 593 set in 1993. It also earned him D2Football.com National Player of the Week honors as well as an appearance in Sports Illustrat- ed’s “Faces in the Crowd” section.
