Thomas Bay Route Leaving the harbor at high tide this route follows the coast of Kupreanof Island to the Sukoi Islets. From here it crosses Frederick Sound via the islets and then follows the Point Agassiz Peninsula shoreline to the entrance of Thomas Bay. Spurt Cove and Cascade Creek are two Forest Service Cabins that could be rented on the route. One could arrange for a charter back to Petersburg or pad- dle the same route back. Thomas Bay is fairly protected but can have strong’ cold wind blowing down the Baird Glacier. Caution should be used at the entrance of Thomas Bay where very strong tidal currents and standing waves occur when the tide is running. This route is 60 miles and requires crossing Frederick Sound twice. Campsite and information pages for Thomas Bay route
