6 Assam is a land full of sports loving people and has produced some of the best sportsmen in the country. A rich culture of sports have existed among its inhabitants since ages. The state has been a witness to major sporting activities which includes, amongst others, the XII South Asian Games, which took place from 5 -16th February, 2016 in Guwahati as well as in Shillong.

7 EARLY HISTORY

RANG GHAR (The Oldest Amphitheatre of Asia) Built By - Ahom King Swargadeo Pramatta Singha in 1746 AD 8 The traditional games of Assam have been famous since the time of the Ahom rule. The great Ahom King Swargadeo Pramatta Singha built the first Amphitheater in Assam in AD 1746 which is known as Rang Ghar. The Ahom kings encouraged games like- Wrestling, Sword fighting, Horse riding, Buffalo fight etc. Amongst the common people, they also organized competition in those games and enjoyed the same from the pavilion of Rang Ghar. It may be9 understood that games and sports have been very CONTEMPORARY TIMES

During contemporary times, many sportspersons have been able to bring laurels to the state and held its name high not just at the national but also at the international arena. Of late we have seen that many boxers from Assam have been showing their talents in the National and International Sports Competitions. The live example is non other than Shiva Thapa who is going to represent in Rio Olympics, 2016. On the other hand Football is the most popular sport in the State. It is played in each and every village and town. A number of footballers (both male and10 female) of the state have represented the Indian CONVERSATIONS OF SHIVA THAPA WITH ACADEMY STUDENTS

11 Keeping this in view the State Football and Academy have been conceived to give a permanent platform to the budding talents of Assam and to train them in a systematic and scientific approach in order to give a positive direction so that they can achieve highest level of performance in due course of time.

THE STATE FOOTBALL AND BOXING ACADEMY Sarusajai Sports Complex, Guwahati, started on 20th June, 2015

12 OBJECTIVES

 To tap the budding talents from every nook and corner of the state.  To impart systematic training and to prepare them for National and International competitions.  To improve the skills of the trainees.  To work on the all round development for making them better citizens of the country.

GOAL

 To impart professional training of the highest standards to the emerging sports talents of the sate and thus enable them to perform at the highest level of competitions so that they can bring laurels not just for the state but also for the nation as a whole.  To give exposures to the upcoming talents.

THE TARGET IS TO PREPARE THESE PLAYERS PROFESSIONALLY TO ATTAIN THE TARGETS BELOW :

14 SELECTION The selection of talents has PROCEDURE been done by a team of experts in various tournaments namely:

Block Level Tournament

Zonal Level Tournament

Inter District Tournament are conducted to select players

Trial camps were organized at 4 zones namely Bongaigaon, Cachar, Biswanath Chariali and to select budding talents.

A team of experts including Chief Coach and Assistant Coach (Football & Boxing), Assistant Director and Deputy Director have selected the final list of players by holding 2 days assessment camp.

21 ACHIEVEMENTS OF STATE BOXING ACADEMY  6 players have participated in U- 16 Boys / Girls RGKA National Boxing Championship which was held in Chennai, Tamil Nadu from 16th to 22nd January, 2016.  4 players have participated in U- 14 Boys School National Boxing Championship which was held in Delhi from 1st January to 9th January, 2016.  State Boxing Academy Girls Team grabbed the Girls overall Championship Trophy as a best team with 9 Gold medals, 2 Silver medals and 3 Bronze th medals in the 37 All Assam 22 Inter District Sub-Junior (Boys & ACHIEVEMENTS OF STATE BOXING ACADEMY

• State Boxing Academy Boys Team got the Second best team award with 5 Gold medals, 4 Silver medals and 3 Bronze medals in the 37th All Assam Inter District Sub-Junior (Boys & Girls) Boxing Championship which was held in Barpeta from 9th June to 12th July, 2016. • Ajoy Teron have brought Gold medal at the 36th All Assam Inter Dist. Sub- Junior & Junior (Boys & Girls) Boxing Championship which was held in Titabor from 7th to 10th January, 2015. • Gold Medal also Won by Ajay Teron State Junior Championship at Duliajan on 30/07/2016.

23 ACHIEVEMENTS OF STATE FOOTBALL ACADEMY

• Aman Chetry is selected as a member of under 17 World Cup Team scheduled to be held on 2017. • 5 Footballesrs –Immanual Malswline, Mizing Narzary, Musukha Narzary, Fwideen Borgayari and Trinayan Jyoti Gogoi have participated in Pacific School Game which was held in Adelaide, Australia from 19th to 29th October, 2015. • Bikash Gurung has participated in the U- 16 South Asian Football Cup held in Bangladesh on August, 2015. • For South Asian Football Cup, Bikash Gurung & Manash Pratim Gogoi was selected for exposure tour to Germany on August, 2015 • Recently the Football team has won the Pilik Choudhury U-14 Inter- Dist.
