St. Clare of Montefalco A Catholic Community in Detroit and Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan

The Spirit Michaelite Fathers

From the Desk of our Pastor March 4, 2018 | Third Sunday of Lent I hope you had a great week. It is Nametag Sunday Let’s make an effort to get to know new people sitting nearby!

Last Sunday I asked you how are your Lenten resolutions? How is that going “up” and “in” and “out” shaping your daily activities? Have you noticed any change in yourself? As Sister Kathy reminds us over and over – Lent is not about chocolate but a time of naming those areas in our lives that need healing, conversion, and renewal. We begin the final preparation with our RCIA candidates and catechumens before the Easter Sacraments this weekend at 9 am Mass. An important part of their preparation is the celebration of the three Scrutinies. The readings for these services are taken from year A of our liturgical calendar. Deacon Rich will preach for these 3 services as well. The rest of the Masses will follow the year B cycle. These rites are so important that there is a special ritual Mass with unique prayers offered. As we follow these rites let us reflect on their meaning in our personal story. Please keep our RCIA candidates in your prayers.

Adoration As our community prepares for the Scrutinies I would like to invite everyone to the Wednesday Adoration from 6-7 pm. During this season we focus on the three Lenten practices, prayer being one of them. Take the time to slow down a bit, gather your thoughts and reflect prayerfully on what is sinful and in need of healing in our lives, families, and parishes. For the next three Wednesdays we will start our holy hour of prayer with a 30 min video presentation “A Lent to Remember” followed by Adoration. This week’s video: Where are you? Will be followed by Adoration with Taize chants. The Church Fathers remind us that Lent has two characteristics: Baptism and Penance. Therefore, as we journey with our RCIA candidates we prepare and approach Penance in light of anticipating our renewal of Baptism at Easter. We are disciples on the road: desert, mountain and today church or the well: discipleship and reconciliation. You can’t do it without prayer and reflection. Come and join us this Wednesday, 6 to 7 pm.

Reconciliation Just a reminder: vicariate celebrations of the sacrament of confession with many priests available for individual confession are as follows:

March 22 – 7 pm St. Paul on the Lake March 26 – 1 pm – St. Pio and at 7 pm St. Joan of Arc

St. Clare and St. Philomena have their daily opportunities 30 min before the Mass or at 2:30 pm on Saturdays.
