2013 Annual Report “We are the Lamps lit by KEF” Message from THE CHAIRMAN

I would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of the Board of Trustees (BOT) and Management of Kashmir Education Foundation (KEF) to thank all of our Trustees, Patrons and Volunteers for their support in Supporting KEF Schools. We have ensured that we maintain a standard of excellence that is the hallmark of our Institutions since 1996.

KEF is evolving and growing, both in its institutions as well as in our friends supporting us. We have achieved great milestones, by garnering support of friends from UK, USA and Canada by paving the way to formation of KEF Chapters. We, at KEF are enhancing our key internal operations to ensure a consistent system of imparting high quality education to the bright and talented youth residing in the rural areas of Pakistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJ&K). Our Institutions perform exceptionally well, with Pearl Valley Public School and College (PVPS&C) our senior most school securing 100% results in the Matriculation Examination. Our College of Teacher Education-CTE (affiliated with Bahria University, Islamabad) has progressed over the years producing highly trained and competent teachers.

We have also focused on maintaining a strong system of monitoring and evaluation and are dedicated to making every system at KEF and its institutions transparent. We have strived to improve our operational and financial management by regularly conducting academic & financial audit sessions both internally and externally. KEF has received the prestigious Pakistan Centre of Philanthropy (PCP) certification award for the third consecutive time, bearing the seal of Non Profit Organisation (NPO) certifying that KEF conforms to internationally accepted best practices in internal governance, program delivery and financial management. This is an acknowledgment of our commitment to our vision.

We are striving to build a stronger tomorrow for this Nation, by investing in its youth today. KEF & its schools remain sincere to its vision and mission, of imparting high quality education to the rural children and specially the girl child. I believe that future years bring new optimism and a renewed passion for excellence and that we will be able to achieve every goal we have set for ourselves for the coming years. All this can only be achieved with the fullest cooperation of parents, students and the community. Thanks for reading,

Air Marshal (Retd) Masood Akhtar Chairman KEF-Pakistan Dedication to Duty at all Times

The most vital ingredient of any nation's wealth is its intellectual asset. Only those nations that provide quality education to their youth can hope to progress and prosper. The demands of twenty first century make it abundantly clear that excellence in higher education, especially in the professional and technical fields, is the most vital need of the day. Quality schooling thus, becomes a prerequisite at the foundation level.

Good schools and colleges in Pakistan are mostly in the private sector and are expensive, and a very small percentage (1-2%) of country's affluent population, therefore, draws the maximum benefit. 98% of nation's talented underprivileged population remains deprived. In an effort to reverse this trend and to develop the potential of children from underprivileged rural sections of the society, KEF has established non-commercial Schools dedicated to the cause of education.

“Masha’Allah... This is an institution to be proud of, I hope to support KEF and to see this project grow”. Ms. Suniya Qureshi, British Pakistan Foundation Constantly Striving to Perform Best

KEF Schools inculcate creative thinking in children, ensuring the build up of a sound base on which further grooming is carried out through research based planning and activity based teaching. Emphasis is also laid on extracurricular activities to produce a well-rounded personality.

Our education fosters creativity in students, giving a child confidence to handle day to day problems analytically and put forward the best possible solution so that he/she should be able to handle challenges of life with confidence.

We Believe, in providing highest standards of education to the rural based children so that they can compete with children of urban areas.

We Feel, that a girl child is special and her education and empowerment is essential for the development of society and the Nation. Special focus is therefore paid on the enrolment of the girls from the community.

We Emphasize on the intellectual well being of all our children. We believe in the moral uplift of a child's character. We aim at producing future leaders of the Nation, who will be the role models for their communities. Maintains Transparency

We at Kashmir Education Foundation maintain highest integrity and transparency in all our financial matters. Our accounts are subjected to vigorous verification and review by independent internal auditors from M/s Zia Masood Kiani & Co Chartered Accountants and external auditors from M/s Riaz Ahmad & Co Chartered Accountants. Internal auditors evaluate our internal control mechanism and check all financial transactions.

KEF also has an Audit Committee of the Board of Trustees, which monitors financial discipline in KEF. The audit committee reviews all reports of internal and external auditors and hold meetings with their representative on regular basis.

KEF financials are subjected to scrutiny by Income Tax Commissioner and Pakistan Center for Philanthropy (PCP). We were certified by both the organizations, with PCP placing it as one of their top Institution with overall rating of over 80%.

“This is a tremendous effort to reach out to children in villages for educating them to a high standard. Certainly this means that these children will help built Pakistan which would not have been possible without the hard work of KEF and facilities provided by the Foundation. This good work must be encouraged by the nation to progress and be well respected in the international communities. These children would one day make a worth while contribution not only to Pakistan but also globally.” Mr. Shahid Dastageer Khan, a Solicitor of Senior Courts of England, Wales, UK. WELCOME TO KEF KEF Students-Sharing their Feelings

I did my matriculation from A.P.S Rawalakot and got admission in PVPS Rawalakot in Aug, 2012. It was my hearts desire that I should take admission in PVPS, so far me it was a dream that come true. My admission and entrance test was on the basis of merit.

I have a weak eye sight and teachers helped me during the class and made me sit in the front of class and gave me special attention. The teachers also involved me in class discussions which boosted my confidence and I began to participate in class actively. The other activities and facilities of school also helped in boosting my confidence.

I feel confident that I can face the challenges of tomorrow and have the requisite ability to do so. Name: Mr. Nauman Mir Father's Name: Mir Muhammad Class: 2nd Year (Grade-XII) Reg. No: 0925-2012
