The 2006 University of North Carolina volleyball team faced a daunting task in trying to defend its 2005 Atlantic Coast Conference title. The Tar Heels faced the most difficult schedule in the league, one that featured five eventual NCAA Tournament qualifiers including Oklahoma, Tennessee, Utah, College of Charleston and Duke. The challenging non-conference schedule led to some early struggles, but the Tar Heels continued to improve throughout the season and posted several exciting victories. Carolina rallied from a 2-0 hole to beat Wichita State in the UNC Volleyball Clas- sic and won five of its last seven matches to close the season.
