2018/19 GO GOLD Funding Programme Eligibility Criteria

Before beginning the application process, please consider carefully all of the points below as applications which don’t fully meet these new criteria will not be considered:

GO GOLD Podium Funding

• Athletes should be aged 14-23 years on 31st December 2017. Applications from athletes who are 12-13 years may be considered only if they are competing at National/International level

• Athletes must live in Leicestershire, Leicester or Rutland (i.e. pay council tax) and attend the local school system. If athletes are currently studying away at University, their parents/non term time address should be in Leicestershire, Leicester or Rutland. We will not fund athletes studying at Leicester, DeMontfort or Loughborough University if they are not from Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland.

• All applicants must be in full time education

• Athletes must be competing at Regional (East Midlands), National or International Level. Unfortunately we can no longer accept applications from athletes competing at District or County Level.

• Athletes must be competing in an Olympic, Paralympic or Commonwealth discipline or be participating in a locally recognised priority sport (a full list of eligible disciplines can be found below).

The GO GOLD Podium Funding comes in three tiers;

Successful applicants will receive funding in two instalments (April and October 2018) following receipt of an online blog at least once per month, starting from April 2018. Failure to submit these blogs will result in funding being withdrawn.

GO GOLD Performance Funding

If applicants are unsuccessful in receiving GO GOLD Podium Funding, they will automatically be referred to their Local Authority for consideration for GO GOLD Performance Funding (Tier 4, £100 grants).

Please note, not all Local Authorities are participating in the GO GOLD Performance Level and therefore only athletes in participating districts can be referred. Please see the LRS website for those Districts offering a GO GOLD Performance award.

In addition to the main Funding criteria listed above, applicants must also adhere to the following;

1. Athletes should be recognised by their National Governing Body as being on their Talent Pathway. Athletes who are not on this formal pathway will be capped at receiving Tier 3 Funding only

2. Athletes who already receive direct funding through the Lottery or TASS will need to demonstrate a financial need to receive further funding from this scheme.

3. Athletes who are financially supported through contracts with professional sports clubs are ineligible.

4. Repeat recipients must clearly demonstrate improvements in their performance over the past twelve months. If no improvement is demonstrated, a grant may not be awarded – unless circumstances are detailed within application.

5. Successful recipients of the GO GOLD Funding will also be asked to undertake roles and responsibilities for Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport (LRS). Role examples include; completing an online blog at least once per month, attending sporting and celebratory events and having your image/blogs on the LRS website, social media sites including YouTube, and relevant publications. Failure to support LRS in these roles will result in funding being withdrawn.

6. Appropriate recognition must be given to LRS and the athletes Local Authority in any media coverage received by the individual.

7. LRS / Local Authorities reserve the right to reclaim any grant that is deemed not to have been used against costs and/or expenses identified in the agreement.

8. GO GOLD financial support will be assessed on results from regular competitions. To receive the grant, athletes must have taken part in at least 1 qualifying competition per year in their sport’s season. If the athlete becomes injured or unable to compete, the GO GOLD Programme Manager must be advised and funding will be withheld until the athlete is back to full fitness.

9. There have been recent changes to timescales with the GO GOLD Funding Programme. Cheques will now be released in two instalments (April and October 2018) in receipt of online blogs which will be requested from April 2018. Failure to submit these blogs will result in funding being withdrawn.

In the likely event that there is competition for awards, the panel will prioritise applications based on the following criteria;

1) Priority is given to applicants in Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland education and club systems. 2) This grant has been developed to support those athletes whose financial need is the greatest. Therefore dependant on the amount of applications we receive, we may need to means test in order to ensure that grants are awarded to those who are in most need of financial support. However, means testing will only take place if we receive more eligible applications than the funding we have available. 3) NGB’s will advise on prioritisation of applicants from the same sport and will provide any additional information we need on top of the information provided in the application form 4) Grants provided in previous years may be taken into account, along with engagement in GO GOLD ambassador duties demonstrated in the criteria. 5) Priority may be given to individuals who have not received funding previously
