Actions taken against the obstruction caused by waste recycling shops

Follow-up actions taken by government department within the following areas from 25.5.2012 to 10.10.2012 are stated below:

Area Black spot of environmental problems Action taken caused by waste recycling shops Sheung Tung Loi Lane, Mercer Street, Jervois Food and Environmental Hygiene Department: Wan Street, Tai Ping Shan Street Apart from routine daily inspection, FEHD staff also conducts weekly surprise inspections to the alleged locations

in order to strengthen the monitoring of recyclable wastes collection shop as to check whether articles are placed in public place causing obstruction to our scavenging operations or dirtying the public place. FEHD staff often reminds these shop operators to keep the public place in a clean condition and prevent causing obstruction to our scavenging services during their day-to-day operation. From 25.5.2012 to 10.10.2012, FEHD staff had issued verbal warnings to the relevant responsible persons regarding the related irregularities and they immediately removed the articles that might cause obstruction to our scavenging work and cleared the refuse left in the public place upon our warnings. Besides, FEHD had issued 1 summons to each of the recyclable wastes collection shop at Tung Loi Lane and Jervois Street respectively (in total 2 summonses).

In order to enhance the cleansing condition, these black spots and their vicinity are being thoroughly washed at least once weekly by this department, except Tung Loi Lane which is subject to thrice weekly thorough washing.

Hong Kong Police Force(Central District):

The waste recycling shops in Central District are mainly located on Tung Hoi Lane, Man Yee Lane, Jervois Street, and Tai Ping Shan Street. Between January and August 2012, police figures of the complaints and the prosecutions for vehicle obstruction at the locations concerned are as follows:

FEHD staff often reminds these shop operators to keep the public place in a clean condition and prevent causing obstruction to our scavenging services during their day-to-day operation.
