THIEM LOOKS FOR FIFTH TITLE, POUILLE MAIDEN ATP CROWN

FINAL PREVIEW: The championship of the Moselle Open on Sunday features two of the young stars on the ATP World Tour as top seed takes on No. 3 , who won the previous meeting last year in the 1R at ATP Masters 1000 Monte-Carlo.

Pouille is trying to extend the recent success of Frenchmen to win the Metz title. Since 2009, Frenchmen have accounted for six of the past seven Metz titles (except Goffin in 2014). During that stretch, Tsonga has won three times (2011-12, 2015), Simon has won twice (2010, 2013) and Monfils once (2009).

Thiem.is appearing in his sixth ATP World Tour final of the season (4-1) and 10th of his career (7-2). The 23-year-old Austrian is No. 7 in the Emirates ATP Race to London standings and he’s trying to qualify for the season finale for the first time in his career. Thiem is also trying to become the first player on the ATP World Tour this season to win titles on clay, grass, hard and indoors. Last year Djokovic and Federer accomplished the feat.

Pouille is appearing in his second career ATP World Tour final. In April, he reached the final in Bucharest (l. to Verdasco). The 22-year-old Frenchman is trying to become the seventh or eighth first-time ATP World Tour winner this year. German teenager Alexander Zverev, who is in the Metz final, is trying to add his name to the first-time winners list. Pouille is also attempting to post his fifth Top 10 win of the season (4-4). Prior to this year, he was 0-2 in his career vs. Top 10 opponents.
