April 27, 2016 Buon giorno, Patti and I are getting ready to leave for a long-anticipated vacation to ! We’ll be on a tour that takes us to Rome, Siena, Florence, Venice and Milan. We’ll be leaving on May 9, the day after Mother’s Day, and returning on May 23rd. It’s excit- ing to think about, but it means we’ll be gone from Centennial for two weeks during a very busy month. I’ve arranged for Reverend Dr. Jennifer Ollikainen to be our guest preacher on May 15, Pentecost Sunday! Then Dr. Karl Krueger, whom some of you know, will be with you on May 22.

On May 24, 25, and 26, Life Touch Studios will be here at Centennial taking portraits for our new pictorial directory. Please be sure to sign up for your family’s portrait session. You will receive a complimentary copy of the directory, and also an 8x10” free portrait. You may also wish to purchase additional photos. Barbara Ray, Lois Moore and Marge Gabrill are helping to make sure we get members included in the directory. Look for more information in this May newsletter.

April was an eventful month for our faith community. We bid farewell to Brad Roth on April 3rd; it was a joyful occasion, as Brad and Martha are now undertaking a new ministry opportunity. Brad has now been installed as the new pastor at Egypt Community Church in Whitehall, PA. Many people came to worship that day, and joined us for the reception that followed. We wish Brad and Martha God’s blessings in this new chapter of their life in Christ. While we share in their joy, we will also miss them. Brad was a big part of our music ministry here at Centennial for the past two years.

On April 24th, we received several new members into our faith community; some who have been worshiping with us for some time, and others who are brand new to Centennial. We welcome them into the life and mission of Jesus Christ that we share.

May 1st marks the third monthly meeting of our senior youth. We’ve been having good participation from the youth and from their parents, but we’re still looking for involvement from other members of Centennial. These young people are looking forward to going to the next ELCA National Youth Gathering which will take place in the summer of 2018, and will be in Houston, Texas! -- Last summer, 30,000 Lutheran teenagers met in Detroit for a faith-filled 5 days of worship, fellowship and ministry outreach. For many of our young people in the church, these youth gatherings are life-changing experiences. Look for more information about the Houston trip in the coming months.

Looking forward to June, my long-time friend Vince Ryan will be giving an organ recital here at Centennial. The date is Sunday, June 5th and the concert will be at 3:00 PM. Vince is the Minister of Music at Advent Lutheran Church in Harleysville. Later this year, Vince will be doing an organ concert tour in several cities in . One of the venues will be the Castle Church in Wittenberg where Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the door to start the Protestant Reformation 499 years ago! Let’s be sure to give Vince a warm Centennial welcome.

There continue to be many signs of new life here at Centennial. Please join us in our shared ministry in the name of the risen Christ,

I enjoy reading, cooking, caring for others, spending time with good friends, and finally having the time to meet new people. I knew Centennial was right for me the very first time I walked in the door for worship. Everyone is so welcoming and kind - I believe I have found a truly spiritual new home. I am so happy to be joining the church and gaining a new family!

I live by the mantra “Life is too short” so I live each day to the fullest and the best of my ability. I have been in the building/construction business most of my adult life; first in new home construction then commercial concrete for 25 years. For the past 4 years I have been self-employed, Jeffrey Ondo Contracting. My work is primarily throughout Chester and Montgomery counties, ranging from remodeling inside and out to complete home additions. I treat each opportunity and project as if it were my own home. Though my work keeps me extremely busy, I enjoy the beach in my “free” time as well as getting out on my Harley to enjoy the good weather. I'm an avid reader, enjoy golf and traveling. Life is good !! I look forward to becoming a member of Centennial Lutheran Church and wish all of you peace, joy, and happiness!! God Bless.

Campbell Soup Label Program

Discontinued

Pastor Edward Busch from The Navajo Lutheran Mission in Rock Point, Arizona reported that the Campbell Soup Label program will be discontinued on July 31, 2016. The Mission receives labels from all over the country, and many more are mailed directly to the program headquarters earmarked for the Mission’s benefit. Over the years the piles of carefully clipped labels have added up to at least 8 new vehicles, along with tables, chairs, school supplies, and much, much more.

Pastor Busch noted that “the Campbell Soup Label program has been a God-send to Navajo Lutheran Mission. The benefits to the Navajo people are more than can be numbered. Please accept our sincere gratitude for the many dedicated individuals and congregations who have participated.”

Labels received and recorded prior to July 31 can still count toward valuable resources for the Mission and School.

Pastor Busch also emphasized that Box Tops for Education from General Mills can still be sent to the Mission.

We would like to thank Thrivent Financial for Lutherans' (SM) and those people who have designated Choice Dollars via the Thrivent Choice(R) program. This month we gratefully acknowledge gifts designated by the following people:

A taste of God's love

In Lost in Wonder, Love and Praise (Abingdon Press), John Killinger describes a mother’s love — and how it offers a tiny foretaste of God’s love:

“It is stronger than steel, softer than down and more resilient than a green sapling on the hillside. It closes wounds, melts disappointments and enables the weakest child to stand tall and straight in the fields of adversity. I believe that this love, even at its best, is only a shadow of the love of God, a dark reflection of all that we can expect of him, both in this life and the next.”
