After seeing the scale of the disaster brought by Hurricane Harvey to Texas, former Sumter resident Jim Miller was moved to help. His wife, Carla Miller, said her husband had watched a story about a church in Texas. The pastor’s house had been flooded, and he was living in the church. People were asking for drywall. “The spirit touched him, and he said: ‘We are going to do what we can do,’” she said. The couple was planning on attending an RV rally in Missouri but decided to take a “detour.” “My husband and I own an RV, and we have a car carrier that we put our car or pickup in while we are traveling,” Carla said. Instead of putting their car in the car- rier, they decided to load it with sheet rock and drive to Texas.
