  • Joining Forces Accomplishments Overview
JOINING FORCES ACCOMPLISHMENTS OVERVIEW COMMUNITIES ACROSS THE COUNTRY JOINING FORCES TO SERVE AND HONOR MILITARY FAMILIES On April 12, 2011, First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden launched Joining Forces to bring Americans together to recognize, honor and serve our nation’s veterans and military families. The initiative focuses on improving employment, education, and wellness of America’s troops, veterans and military families as well as raising awareness about the service, sacrifice, and needs of all who serve our country, both abroad and here at home. In just one year, Americans from communities across America – our businesses, schools, faith groups, non- profit organizations, and neighborhoods – have stepped up with an overwhelming amount of support for these heroes, not just with words, but with real, concrete actions to make a difference in their lives. Working with Joining Forces, these groups have helped thousands of veterans and military spouses find jobs, improved educational opportunities for military children, supported our nation’s wounded warriors and their caregivers, and honored our nation’s fallen and their families whose strength continues to inspire us all. KEY JOINING FORCES ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Through Joining Forces, American businesses have hired more than 50,000 veterans and military spouses, with a pledge to hire at least 160,000 more in the years ahead. More than 1,600 companies have been involved in this effort, including Microsoft, Comcast, Honeywell, Safeway and Sears. Associations of doctors, nurses, psychologists, social workers and medical schools have committed to educating their memberships on diagnosing and caring for military families affected by post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injuries – the invisible wounds of our wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

  • February 26, 2021 Amazon Warehouse Workers In
February 26, 2021 Amazon warehouse workers in Bessemer, Alabama are voting to form a union with the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU). We are the writers of feature films and television series. All of our work is done under union contracts whether it appears on Amazon Prime, a different streaming service, or a television network. Unions protect workers with essential rights and benefits. Most importantly, a union gives employees a seat at the table to negotiate fair pay, scheduling and more workplace policies. Deadline Amazon accepts unions for entertainment workers, and we believe warehouse workers deserve the same respect in the workplace. We strongly urge all Amazon warehouse workers in Bessemer to VOTE UNION YES. In solidarity and support, Megan Abbott (DARE ME) Chris Abbott (LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE; CAGNEY AND LACEY; MAGNUM, PI; HIGH SIERRA SEARCH AND RESCUE; DR. • Download Instructions on How to Hold an OEC Bottle and Can Drive
Hold Your Own Bottle and Can Drive to Support OEC Thank you for being a Bottle Bonanza drive sponsor! Many of your friends and neighbors separate their NYS redeemable water/soda/beer cans and bottles and return them periodically to a store or redemption center for cash. Some can’t be bothered and simply discard them. Collecting these items and redeeming them makes them donors and you a fundraiser for Onondaga Earth Corps. Here are some steps to take to hold a successful bottle and can drive: 1. Decide when and where you want to hold your drive. Some people hold them in their neighborhood at their own house and ask their neighbors and friends to drop off their donations. Others choose to pick up the donations at the source. Decide what’s right for you! 2. Contact Pieter Keese to schedule your drive and arrange any support you might need. [email protected] 315-289-6776 (phone or text) When texting state your name and Bottle Bonanza intention. 3. Hand out flyers a week or two before the drive. Download the fillable PDF flyer at the Bottle Bonanza website and complete it with your drive information for distribution in your neighborhood. Use your social media savvy to alert your friends. 4. Hold your drive 5. Take your collection to the redemption center (list provided below). 6. Advise the redemption center that the proceeds are for Onondaga Earth Corps. Let them know if you have to make more than one trip and they will credit the account until you have completed your delivery.

WATCHING TELEVISION WITH FRIENDS: TWEEN GIRLS’ INCLUSION OF TELEVISUAL MATERIAL IN FRIENDSHIP by CYNTHIA MICHIELLE MAURER A dissertation submitted to the Graduate School-Camden Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Graduate Program in Childhood Studies written under the direction of Daniel Thomas Cook and approved by ______________________________ Daniel T. Cook ______________________________ Anna Beresin ______________________________ Todd Wolfson Camden, New Jersey May 2016 ABSTRACT Watching Television with Friends: Tween Girls’ Inclusion of Televisual Material in Friendship By CYNTHIA MICHIELLE MAURER Dissertation Director: Daniel Thomas Cook This qualitative work examines the role of tween live-action television shows in the friendships of four tween girls, providing insight into the use of televisual material in peer interactions. Over the course of one year and with the use of a video camera, I recorded, observed, hung out and watched television with the girls in the informal setting of a friend’s house. I found that friendship informs and filters understandings and use of tween television in daily conversations with friends. Using Erving Goffman’s theory of facework as a starting point, I introduce a new theoretical framework called friendship work to locate, examine, and understand how friendship is enacted on a granular level. Friendship work considers how an individual positions herself for her own needs before acknowledging the needs of her friends, and is concerned with both emotive effort and social impact. Through group television viewings, participation in television themed games, and the creation of webisodes, the girls strengthen, maintain, and diminish previously established bonds.

Savage 1 “Who’s gonna turn down a Junior Mint? It’s chocolate, it’s peppermint ─it’s delicious!” While this may sound like your typical television commercial, you can thank Jerry Seinfeld and his butter fingers for what is actually one of the most renowned lines in television history. As part of a 1993 episode of Seinfeld , subsequently known as “The Junior Mint,” these infamous words have certainly gained a bit more attention than the show’s writers had originally bargained for. In fact, those of you who were annoyed by last year’s focus on a McDonald’s McFlurry on NBC’s 30 Rock may want to take up your beef with Seinfeld’s producers for supposedly showing marketers the way to the future ("Brand Practice: Product Integration Is as Old as Hollywood Itself").
