Tri-City Day School Family Newsletter December 2013

Dear Parents/Guardians, Just when we think it cannot get better, we were once again blessed with a wonderful Thanksgiving Feast which was supported through donations of food and cash from community members and many of you. On behalf of all of the staff and students at Tri-City, many thanks to all who made this meal possible! Everyone enjoyed the food and company of our existing Tri-City staff and students, current staff from other Derby, Mulvane, and Haysville Schools, and former staff and students who came back to visit! We served the largest group of visitors so far at this year’s feast; almost 100 people enjoyed the feast this year at Tri-City.

We have many fun activities coming up in December. The students will have an opportunity to participate in a Community Service project this Friday, a PBIS party, a visit from Santa and our first ever Accelerated Reader Field Trip (for those students who met their reading goal this 9 weeks). For those of you who are new Tri-City families, Santa brings a gift to each of the students when he visits. Santa’s helper Eddie the Elf has been spotted daily keeping an eye on things and keeping Santa updated!

On behalf of the staff at Tri-City, have a wonderful and safe holiday season with your family!

Wishing you well, Gina

Other Field Trips for the 2013-14 School Year

Parents have mentioned in the past that it would be helpful to know what other field trips we are planning to have and anticipated costs with these outings. The following are a list of activities so far:

December 6 – Kennedy/Waters’ classes to Town East to ring bells for Red Kettle Campaign – students need money for lunch in Food Court – Kelly/Darbyshire’s classes to Wichita Children’s Theater – students need $4.00 for the play

December 18 – Accelerated Reader (AR) Field Trip – only students meeting their AR goal will be attending – no charge – more information at a later date

January 24 – Carousel Skating Rink – $3.50 for skating, $5.00 max. extra spending money, lunch at CiCi’s covered by school

February 21 – Derby Bowl (bowling and lunch) - $4.00 for lunch (school will cover bowling and shoe rental costs)

May 2 – Sedgwick County Zoo - $5.00 and a sack lunch

If you find yourself unable to pay for an outing, please contact us and let us know ahead of time so that payment arrangements can be made. It is very difficult to find out the day of the outing that someone needs help covering the cost of the trip.

Remember that students must be in good standing both academically and behaviorally to attend school outings.

Accelerated Reader (AR) Field Trip December 18 will be our first ever Accelerated Reader reward Field Trip! Mrs. D. and Mrs. Kennedy have determined an appropriate goal for each student based on his/her ability to read and comprehend stories. Students who meet their goal will be attending a special field trip that will not be announced until a later date. I will tell you that it is a really special outing that we have never attended before...... that will be the only hint! Remember that your child can take AR tests over books they have read or books that have been read TO them. Please find some time in your busy schedule to read with your child to help them reach their goal! If you would like to know your child’s AR goal, you can email Mrs. D. at [email protected] or Mrs. Kennedy at [email protected] to get that information.

Inclement Weather It is that time of year again, when the weather can change very quickly.
