#BlackBearNation 3 MOVE THE BALL Maine currently ranks first in the America East and seventh in the nation in assist to field goal percentage, registering an assist on 62.3% of their field goal makes this year. The next closest America East team is Albany, who sits at 56th overall with an assist on 56.8% of their field goals.

LIVING UP TO THE HYPE After being the first Black bear since 2012 to be named Preseason All-Conference in the America East, Andrew Fleming delivered the first chance he got, dominating the opener against Merrimack with 37 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and two blocks in Maine’s 84-64 victory, playing all 40 minutes end-to-end. The 37 points were just one shy of his ca- reer-high, and he did it on a 66.6% mark from the field while going 13-15 from the free-throw line.

RARE AIR If all that wasn’t enough, Fleming also made history on opening night by becoming the 31st member of the Maine bas- ketball 1,000 career points club. He’s the first since Aaron Calixte, who achieved the feat during the 2017-18 season, and just the second since the 2011 season. He joins current assistant coach Kevin Reed in the club, who’s fourth all-time in program history with 1,601 career points. In his career, Fleming also has eclipsed 600 total rebounds, just the 30th Black Bear to accomplish that feat.
