Gay, Esq., who has been a magistrate forty years, and resides at the New Hall, a handsome mansion in a well-wooded lawn, erected in 1636, and enlarged in 1818. The manor of Aldborough was long held by the De Herewards, and was carried in marriage by the heiress of T. Parker, Esq., to the Gays, about the close of the 16th century.' - White's 1845. Suffield, The Right Honorable Lord Gunton Hall Member of the Privy 26 September 1836 Edward Vernon Harbord, 4th Baron Suffield was born on 19 June 1813. Council. Christ Church, Oxford. He married Charlotte Susannah Gardner, daughter of Admiral Alan Hyde Gardner, 2nd Baron Gardner of Uttoxeter and Hon. Charlotte Elizabeth Smith, on 1 September 1835. He died on 22 August 1853 at age 40. He was the son of Edward Harbord, 3rd Baron Suffield and Georgiana Vernon. He gained the title of 4th Baron Suffield. 'Erected a handsome hall at Horstead.'
