“I was blessed with the opportunity to attend a Momcology retreat. The purpose was to Ignite Hope, teach me self-care for my body and soul, and reignite my identity and worth. It was a weekend full of connection, support, and new hope. tcjayfund.org 2016 fall tailgate party Meet Dwayne’s family

Thirty-seven pediatric oncology families enjoyed a fun-filled tailgate party at WJCT Studios. Food, football toss, Shuffle Board 30, and other tailgate games were played while many families danced the Cupid Shuffle, creating a spirit of festive fun.

After the party, we headed over to Everbank Field where families experienced on-field access during pre-game activities. We participated in the national anthem ceremony and were recognized on the video boards prior to watching the Jacksonville Jaguars take on the Oakland Raiders.

Mark and Tammy met their 25th foster child when he was ten months old. Dwayne was blind, physically abused, and shortly thereafter diagnosed with Bilateral Retinoblastoma (eye cancer.)

They fostered Dwayne through 12 cycles of chemotherapy and subsequent surgeries at 15 months and 2 ½ years when his eyes were removed. The doctors believed Dwayne would not survive.

In response to this devastating news, Mark and Tammy chose to adopt Dwayne and make him a permanent part of their family.

Tammy says “Dwayne is always happy. He’s currently taking drum lessons; loves to attend Jay Fund parties and is doing great in school.”

Dwayne, who was hula hooping with some friends while Tammy was sharing their story at our Tailgate party, attends the Florida School for the Deaf & Blind in St. Augustine.

We are thrilled to Be There for this remarkable family and pray for continued good health for Dwayne.
