EXOTIC ANTIQUE INSTRUMENTS TO BE PLAYED AT ANTIQUE REVIVAL

MUSICA CURIOSA: ECHOES OF FORGOTTEN INSTRUMENTS Big Flats NY – The rarely heard antique musical instruments Glass Armonica, Seraphim, Glass-Cord, and the Clavichord will be played at Antique Revival, 26 Palmer Road N in Big Flats from 1- 4pm on December 14 & 15 in a special potpourri selection of hourly presentations entitled MUSICA CURIOSA: Echoes of Forgotten Instruments. Internationally celebrated touring musician Dennis James will present hourly demonstration performances originally written or transcribed between 1700 and 1850 especially for this unrivalled collection of unusual instruments. Renowned for over forty years as a touring organist with a specialty in performing the scores of historic silent films, Dennis James will present rare examples from his exotic instrument collection with a repertoire reflecting his wide- ranging and eclectic interests, composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Leopold Rollig, C.P.E. Bach and many others.

A dedicated and imaginative devotee of music history and authentic performance practices, Dennis James plays his instruments with thrilling technical display and in convincing period styles. He has maintained an active international career in music since 1967. A graduate of Indiana University with a Masters degree in organ performance, James has performed solo and with ensembles in concert halls throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. The Antique Revival concert-demonstrations will feature glass music selections played on the Franklin Armonica (the first American ), the Seraphim and the 1876 Beyer Glass-Cord. James resides locally in Addison, NY.
