Brampton Area Parish Plan Summary For the parishes of Brampton, Burtholme, Castle Carrock, Farlam, Hayton, Irthington, Nether Denton and Upper Denton in the county of Cumbria June 2005 Everyone living in rural communities has been given the chance to have much more of a say in the future of their own town or village through the new Parish and Town Plans scheme, backed by the Countryside Agency through its Vital Villages Programme. The scheme gives every member of the community a real chance to become involved in preparing a Plan for the future of their parish. These Plans can cover a whole range of social, economic and environmental issues - in short, everything of relevance to the people who live in the area - in a single, comprehensive document. The Plans set out recommendations based on surveys, research and widespread local consultation. Consultation has been wide-ranging and included important services. In addition to all those who completed and returned questionnaires, our schoolchildren have made significant contributions to the Parish Plan as have our youth. This plan is a working document. It contains the recommendations you have made to safeguard and improve the quality of local life for all of us. Many of the issues are about the preservation and extension of local amenities and facilities, with due note made of strong local feeling about unsympathetic planning applications. Parish Plans will link closely with the local development plans and can be adopted by the Local Authority as official "Supplementary Planning Guidance". This means that the Plans will have a strong and positive influence on where and how development takes place in a parish. Brampton Cottage Hospital. Talkin Tarn, Hadrians Wall and the "dualling" of the A69 are hot topics. Transport is a common local concern to the majority and affordable housing may become an even greater key issue once the housing surveys have been completed. Support will be given to work towards the provision of a swimming pool in Brampton for the community. Some actions are of course dependent on securing funding and will involve the Parish Councils in developing practical working partnerships if ambition is to be turned into reality. In this sense, although the role of the steering committee is now at an end, the work required to take the plan forward is just beginning. The steering committee has summarised the action plan in the following pages. Each parish is, of course, unique - with its own concerns and issues to tackle so your Plan is based on both local and over-arching issues, reflecting the concerns of the majority of those who responded to the consultation. There are many contributors who have given their time freely to this project and we thank them for their generosity.
