Personal Profile

I am a highly motivated Executive member with over thirty five years of experience in the de- velopment and administration of amateur hockey from the Minor to Junior Hockey Level in Brit- ish Columbia. I have a solid track record in the development and implementation of programs to encourage, develop and motivate youth to be the best they can be and continue to improve them- selves as people through hockey. I am well known as a hard worker who takes a hands on, pro- active approach to everything I do. I have the respect of players and people I work with. I am known to be firm in my resolution yet fair and understanding.

Experience

Coach, Initiation to Junior B Hockey (1980 – 2009) I served in various capacities including Coach, Assistant Coach, Official, Manager and Adminis- trator in the Armstrong and Enderby area of the Okanagan District. During that time, I enjoyed many successful seasons that included being involved with teams that won League, Zone and Provincial Championships.

Referee in Chief (1985-1987) I worked to develop an officiating program in a small association that had less than 100 players and at the time, less than 12 referees. Working closely with BC Hockey and Canadian Amateur Hockey Association, we put programs in place to ensure referees were trained and certified. My final season there finished with over 20 certified officials.

President, Armstrong Minor Hockey Association (1988 – 1992) I served as President and worked with neighboring Associations to ensure programs at both the Rep and Recreational level were available in both communities. In late 1990, I spearheaded a group to amalgamate two small Associations from Armstrong and Enderby to form a new Asso- ciation known as North Okanagan Minor Hockey that still operates in this area today.

President, North Okanagan Minor Hockey Association (1993 – 2009) I served as President of North Okanagan Minor Hockey for many years. During this time, I worked with local proponents and brought Junior B Hockey to Enderby in 1993 with the for- mation of the North Okanagan Kings Junior B Hockey Club. The Club was owned and operated by North Okanagan Minor Hockey Association as an extension of our Minor Hockey Associa- tion. This team was a very successful franchise, played in and won the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League Championship in 1993, and went on to represent in Thunder Bay, .

Hockey Speak Out Instructor (1993 – 1997) I became involved with the Speak-Out Program at the Branch level and served as a Speak Out instructor and Okanagan District Coordinator for Speak Out from the inception of the Program until it was offered as an online program through Hockey Canada. I instructed at over 50 clinics where hundreds of persons in the Okanagan became certified.

Hockey Canada Safety Program Instructor (1993- 2003) I became involved in the Safety Program and served as the Okanagan District Coordinator for the Safety Program as well as Okanagan District Risk Manager Liaison from its inception until it was moved to an online program. During that time I became involved at the National Level and became a Master Course Conductor in the Safety Program. I was involved with Candice Alkins in updating the Hockey Canada Safety Program manual in an attempt to modernize it using the most current and up to date information.

President, North Okanagan Minor Hockey (2004 – 2009) I returned to North Okanagan Minor Hockey after several years working with BC Hockey in the Speak-Out and Safety programs to help develop a stronger curriculum for developing minor hockey players. During this time, we were able to develop a new approach to minor hockey by targeting all age groups and utilizing programs provided by Hockey Canada. We ensured the practice to game ratio was more in line with the National Guidelines that saw teams and players practicing with a 2 to 1 ratio to games. We also implemented a very successful Power Skating Program with a professional power skating instructor every week. We also recognized the need to develop skills with the use of cross training and introduced . Our Association attend- ed a national conference in Toronto in conjunction with the Canada Cup Floorball Championship hosted by the International Floorball Federation from Europe. During that event, I became certi- fied as an IFF Referee in an attempt to better implement the sport locally. A resounding success, we further developed our Floorball Program by working with Hockey Canada to become the first Association to host a week long Hockey Canada Skills Summer Hockey School that included Floorball as one of the activities in the dry land training portion of the camp. During our camp, we were able to secure members of Canada’s male and female teams to work with us in introduc- ing the program to youth throughout BC and Alberta. The Hockey Canada Skills Camp was such a successful program that I believe it is still being offered today.
