4 DECEMBER 2017 Electrical Industry Training Centres

The past year has been difficult for far too many of our Brothers and Sisters, you are always in our thoughts, we hope this will turn around soon. A mission of your Training Centres is to provide the membership the Skills and Certifications required for future employment opportunities. During 2018, IBEW424 Members attended total of 61,848 hours of in-house training. Understanding the current economic climate, EITCA has explored options available for additional funding streams. We have submitted a proposal to the Federal Government under the Union Training and Innovation Program (UTIP). The UTIP application is still currently under review. In January 2019, EITCA will be offering the 50th PACT Program intake. The Pre-Apprenticeship Candidate Training Program continues to be highly valued by participants and contractors alike. The PACT model was recently showcased at both the 2018 NETCO and Canadian Apprenticeship Forum Conferences. We are proud of the contribution the graduates of the PACT Program are making to the industry and look forward to continued success in the new year. In a joint initiative with EBFA and IBEW 424, there has been a considerable amount of foundational work done towards the development of a common Website. We expect to begin testing most components of the website early in the new year. Highlights expected from the EITCA portion of the site will include a Training Calendar that will be easier to navigate and provide the option for sms notification. The registration process is streamlined and expected to be more user friendly. In addition, part of the process has been the switch to an online reimbursement process. This change has enabled EITCA to reduce the time it takes to review claims and efficiently submit them to EBFA for final processing.

We sincerely wish you all the best in the new year, from our Family to yours, Merry Christmas EICTA Staff

Next-Gen Committee Update Kyle Hamilton, Next-Gen Chairman Seasons greetings and a very Merry Christmas to all our mem- bers from the Next-Gen committee. It has certainly been an… Interesting… year for events across the world, and here at home. Hopefully none of that gets in the way of a nice fire and a mug of special hot chocolate with the family this season. I do not have too much to report on the committee’s activities other than we are trying to rebuild some momentum from the past. For those of you who don’t know, we are the NEXT-GEN- eration of union activists, 35 and under, looking to be more involved with the operation and advancement of our Union. We are doing this through member engagement, social activities, and volunteer work in our Hall and communities. Come on out and see what we are all about, we meet on the second Thursday of the month at our local from 7-9 PM. If you want to get involved with our committee, you can get in touch with me: by email at [email protected], on Face- book, or come talk to me at our monthly Union meeting.
