Best Design wins RM10,000 Grand Prize

Kuala Lumpur, 1 June 2020: Here is the chance for members of the public to be part of the upcoming MRT Putrajaya Line (formerly the MRT -Serdang- Putrajaya Line) and win RM10,000!

Mass Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) is launching TRANSEAT – The MRT Putrajaya Line Underground Stations Bench Design Competition to find the best design for benches to be installed in the underground stations of the MRT Putrajaya Line, the second line of the Valley MRT Project scheduled to become fully operational in 2023.

The competition opens today, 1 June 2020 and will close on 31 July 2020. It is open to all Malaysian citizens except for employees of MRT Corp, MMC Gamuda KVMRT (PDP SSP) Sdn Bhd and MMC Gamuda KVMRT (T) Sdn Bhd.

Both professionals who are in the design industry and non-professionals including students are encouraged to participate.

MRT Corp MRT Putrajaya Line Project Director Dato’ Amiruddin Ma’aris said MRT Corp was organizing this competition for the second time following the successful one for the MRT Line (formerly the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line) in 2015 and 2016.

“This time around, we have decided to open this competition to all Malaysian citizens from all walks of life for a chance to be part of the MRT Project, where the best design from the competition will be ‘immortalised’ at the Underground Stations of the MRT Putrajaya Line” Amiruddin said.

He added that there was a huge wealth of talent amongst Malaysians and MRT Corp was keen to tap these ideas.

“There were many interesting designs submitted in the first competition. This shows that many Malaysians have great ideas and talent. MRT Corp is now providing a platform for you to transform these ideas into reality,” he said.

The launch of this competition, Amiruddin added, showed that construction of the MRT Putrajaya Line was progressing well, as the competition is the start of works to fit the underground stations with station furniture, which is one of the final stages of the construction process.

The competition Grand Prize winner will win RM10,000, while the first and second- runner ups will win RM7,000 and RM5,000 respectively. A special prize category of RM5,000 will also be awarded for the best submission by students.

The Grand Prize design should be adopted for the benches that will be installed in eight of the nine MRT Putrajaya Line underground stations, but subject to suitability, cost of production and other considerations. One station – Station – was built as part of the MRT Kajang Line and already has benches. Tun Razak Exchange will become an between the MRT Kajang Line and MRT Putrajaya Line in the future.

The winners of the competition are expected to be announced towards the end of 2020.

The competition is being organised in collaboration with the Majlis Rekabentuk (MRM) and supported by the Persatuan Pereka Perindustrian Malaysia (PEREKA).

Construction of the MRT Putrajaya Line has reached 73%. Phase One of the line, comprising the northern elevated section from Kwasa Damansara to Kampung Batu is now 86% completed and is expected to be opened in mid-2021. The entire line from Kwasa Damansara to , including the underground and southern elevated sections, will be operational under Phase Two in January 2023.
