Kids carnival at Strom raises money for children’s hospitals in S.C., Memphis

Nick Needham METRO EDITOR

After six months of planning, a little sunburn and eight hours of sleep in the past week, Danielle Anderson was fi nally able to take a sigh of relief Saturday afternoon. “It’s been very hectic,” said Anderson, a third-year exercise science student. As philanthropy chairwoman for Delta Delta Delta, Anderson was in charge of planning the sorority’s first “Carnival for a Cure,” held at the Strom fi elds on Saturday. The carnival included a ring toss, face-painting, snow cones and an infl atable room where kids could bounce around, all sponsored by souperbowl. org, a youth-led organization created to fight hunger and poverty in their communities. Anderson said she also had each pledge class create its own event. One of the more popular areas seemed to be the “luau party” table for the kids. A silent auction also took place during the carnival, which included a signed baseball and football from USC coaches Ray Tanner and Steve Spurrier. The carnival raised money for Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. Delta Delta Delta is the only national Greek organization formally partnered with St. Jude to help the hospital raise money for sick children. St. Jude is the Jessica Smith / THE DAILY GAMECOCK third largest health care charity in the Children at the “Carnival for a Cure” play with bubbles as part of a fundraiser for St. Jude and Palmetto Health children’s hospitals.
