The infants are studying ‘Amazing Animals’ this term, and did indeed have an amazing time when the School field had a visit from Millers Ark Farm. There were plenty of animals, many of which had young with them, including donkeys, goats, sheep, pigs, rabbits and ducks. The children were able to go into the pens and stroke the animals as they learnt about each of them. They also spent a day at Marwell Zoo, looking at more exotic and unusual animals – I believe that the meerkats were a great favourite! As part of the day there was an interactive workshop learning about Fur and Feathers which was very informative. 4

Now’s the time to forget winter and take up a new sport. Come and try croquet! We shall be holding an Open Day on Sunday 5th June at Down Grange between 10.00 am and noon and again from 2.00 pm until 4.00 pm. Just come along and join in! You can play at Down Grange during the summer months with Basingstoke Croquet Club or the U3A Croquet Section. Forget the silly stuff you hear on the television about croquet: it is a serious game that can be enjoyed by anybody. We play two types of croquet - “Association Croquet” is a game of skill and tactics, not unlike snooker on grass. And there is a simpler form – “Golf Croquet” which is easier to play and more of a social event. If you would like to have a go – no previous experience required – come to Down Grange on a Saturday morning from about 10.00am. The lawn is up the hill to the left of the Toby Carvery entrance as you look at it.
