City Dog Park Planning and Discussion • Mr. King mentioned the “Meet Me at the Park” $20,000 Grant campaign. • Mr. Detty mentioned the Lowe’s communication. • Ms. Byrge discussed the March 29, 2018 email (Copy Enclosed) • Mr. Shaw discussed access to a Shared Drive for additional information. • Mr. King shared concerns regarding “Banning” smoking at the park as no park in Huber is currently banned. • Ms. Byrge suggested Benches inside and out of the park area. • Mr. Hensley and the committee discussed in length the optional sizes for the park. • Mr. Detty expressed interest in a limestone entrance area. • Mr. Hensley suggested the 100ft distance from the North line of the Neighbors and the School property line to the South. -

Seifried, B.S., M.Ed. * * * * * The Ohio State University 2005 Dissertation Committee: Approved by Professor Donna Pastore, Advisor Professor Melvin Adelman _________________________________ Professor Janet Fink Advisor College of Education Copyright by Chad Seifried 2005 ABSTRACT The purpose of this study is to analyze the physical layout of the American baseball and football professional sport facility from 1850 to present and design an ideal-type appropriate for its evolution. Specifically, this study attempts to establish a logical expansion and adaptation of Bale’s Four-Stage Ideal-type on the Evolution of the Modern English Soccer Stadium appropriate for the history of professional baseball and football and that predicts future changes in American sport facilities. In essence, it is the author’s intention to provide a more coherent and comprehensive account of the evolving professional baseball and football sport facility and where it appears to be headed. This investigation concludes eight stages exist concerning the evolution of the professional baseball and football sport facility. Stages one through four primarily appeared before the beginning of the 20th century and existed as temporary structures which were small and cheaply built. Stages five and six materialize as the first permanent professional baseball and football facilities. Stage seven surfaces as a multi-purpose facility which attempted to accommodate both professional football and baseball equally. -

The meeting was held at City Hall, 121 North LaSalle Street, Room 201-A, Chicago, Illinois. The meeting began at 12:49 p.m. PHYSICALLY PRESENT: Rafael Leon, Chairman Jim Houlihan, Vice Chairman David Reifman, Secretary, Commissioner of the Department of Planning and Development Gabriel Dziekiewicz Juan Moreno Ernest Wong ABSENT: Carmen Rossi Mary Ann Smith Richard Tolliver ALSO PHYSICALLY PRESENT: Dijana Cuvalo, Architect IV, Department of Planning and Development Lisa Misher, Department of Law, Real Estate Division Members of the Public (The list of those in attendance is on file at the Commission office.) Preliminary Landmark Recommendation QUINCY ELEVATED STATION WARD 42 220 South Wells Street Matt Crawford presented the report. Motion to adopt the preliminary landmark recommendation for the Quincy Elevated Station. Motioned by Moreno, seconded by Houlihan. Approved unanimously (6-0). 3. Citywide Adopt-a-Landmark Fund ADOPT-A-LANDMARK FUND Application and Funding Priorities Dijana Cuvalo presented the report. Motion to adopt the Adopt-a-Landmark Application and Funding Priorities Motioned by Wong, seconded by Dziekiewicz. -

Daniel H. Burnham and Chicago’s Parks by Julia S. Bachrach, Chicago Park District Historian In 1909, Daniel H. Burnham (1846 – 1912) and Edward Bennett published the Plan of Chicago, a seminal work that had a major impact, not only on the city of Chicago’s future development, but also to the burgeoning field of urban planning. Today, govern- ment agencies, institutions, universities, non-profit organizations and private firms throughout the region are coming together 100 years later under the auspices of the Burnham Plan Centennial to educate and inspire people throughout the region. Chicago will look to build upon the successes of the Plan and act boldly to shape the future of Chicago and the surrounding areas. Begin- ning in the late 1870s, Burnham began making important contri- butions to Chicago’s parks, and much of his park work served as the genesis of the Plan of Chicago. The following essay provides Daniel Hudson Burnham from a painting a detailed overview of this fascinating topic. by Zorn , 1899, (CM). Early Years Born in Henderson, New York in 1846, Daniel Hudson Burnham moved to Chi- cago with his parents and six siblings in the 1850s. His father, Edwin Burnham, found success in the wholesale drug busi- ness and was appointed presidet of the Chicago Mercantile Association in 1865. After Burnham attended public schools in Chicago, his parents sent him to a college preparatory school in New England. He failed to be accepted by either Harvard or Yale universities, however; and returned Plan for Lake Shore from Chicago Ave. on the north to Jackson Park on the South , 1909, (POC). -

The new park has added 16 acres to Grant Park by construct- ing a land bridge over the Metra Railroad tracks. The design, financed through public-private partnership, includes an outdoor ice rink, an award-winning band shell designed by architect Frank Gehry, a 1500-seat Music and Dance Theater, and extensive public sculptures, gar- dens, green spaces and promenades. -

PMDs protect industrial operations by preventing all residential and many commercial uses of land in certain areas of the city. In 1988, Chicago began implementing PMDs to protect industrial operations that an influx of residential development—which had forced industrial companies to consider selling, relocating, or closing—threatened. Chicago continues to rely on PMDs. Fifteen PMDs currently operate, but some of these districts face increased scrutiny as Chicago’s industrial sector steadily declines. -
