About our club

Kirkliston & South Queensferry Football Club (KSQ) was formed in 1991 to foster football within Kirkliston, South Queensferry and neighbouring areas. The Club is an active member of the South East Region Youth Football Association, East of Soccer Development Association, and Amateur Football Association and Soccer Sevens Development Association. Our coaches are all volunteers who are members of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme and have been through child protection, First-Aid and SFA training at various levels.

Training Most teams train outside at The Hub in South Queensferry. Parents are encouraged to stay and watch training as this supports the coaches and encourages positive behaviour in the children. Parents/guardians of children MUST stay or designate another adult to be responsible for their child until the children reach the point where they are playing 7-a-side football.

League games The younger age groups of KSQ play Soccer 4s and Fun 5s organised by Fife Soccer Sevens Development Association (FSSDA). The games take place each week at Pitreavie, Dunfermline. Games typically take place on Saturdays.

Soccer 7s and 9s teams are entered into the East of Scotland Soccer Sevens Development Association (ESSDA) leagues, playing at varying levels across Edinburgh and the . Games typically take place on Sundays.

11-a-side youth teams are typically entered into the South East Region Youth Football Association (SERYFA) leagues system playing opponents throughout the South East of Scotland region. Games typically take place on Sundays.

11-a-side youth teams may also enter the Association of youth football clubs (WLAYFC) playing opponents throughout the West Lothian region. Games typically take place on Sundays.

11-a-side adult teams play in the Lothian and Edinburgh Amateur Football Association (LEAFA) leagues. Games typically take place on Fridays or Saturdays.

Non-payment of fees We aim to keep our fees as low as possible to make our club as accessible to all. If a player misses payments for 2 consecutive months, then the Treasurer will write to the family and they will be given one month to work out a payment plan to clear the arrears. If this is not successful then the matter will be referred to our Child Liaison Officer and the KSQ Committee and the player may, ultimately, be asked to leave the club.

Parents/guardians agree to: • Accompany children to all training and games, until the children reach the point where they are playing 7-a-side football, and ensure their child is properly equipped i.e. boots, shin pads, water and sun cream where appropriate. • Abide by the decisions and team selection of the coaches. • Ensure that your child is prompt in attendance for training and matches and arrives at the time requested. • Encourage all players in the team but don’t coach. • Be responsible for your child at all times.

Players’ code of conduct • Play by the rules – The rules of your club and the laws of the game. • Never argue with a referee or other official – Without these people you can’t play football. • Control your temper - verbal abuse of officials and abusing other players doesn’t help you enjoy or win any games and will not be tolerated by the club. • Be a team player – It’s a team game, treat it that way. • Treat all players as you would like to be treated – fairly. • Co-operate with your coach, the referees and team-mates. • Play for your own enjoyment & to improve your skills. • Don’t use any remarks based on race, religion, gender or ability – you’ll let down your coach, team- mates and family if you do. • Do not take part in any irresponsible, abusive, inappropriate or illegal behaviour, and • Take time to thank those who help you take part whether they are your family, a coach or your teammates.

Parents’ and supporters’ code of conduct • Remember that you are there for the participants to enjoy the game. • Encourage participation but don’t force it. • Teach that enjoying the game is more important than winning. • Never ridicule mistakes or losses – supporters are there to support not ridicule. • Lead by example and respect all players, coaches, referees and spectators – physical or verbal abuse will not be tolerated. • Recognise all volunteers who are giving up their valuable time. • Never publicly criticise referees – raise any concerns you have with club officials in private. • Don’t use ugly remarks based on race, religion, gender or ability – you’ll let down your family and yourself if you do.

Coaches’ code of conduct • Allow all players, no matter their level of ability, the opportunity to play • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every player and treat everyone equally. • Always pursue fair play • Stop any use of cameras unless all parental consent has been provided • Place safety and the well-being of player(s) above performance • Be aware of the SFA’s and the Club’s Child & Vulnerable Adult Protection Policy and Procedures • Ensure that coaching sessions are enjoyable, well-structured and focus on developing skills, decision making and a general understanding of the game • Develop an appropriate working relationship with players based on mutual trust and respect • Encourage players to accept responsibility for their own behaviour and performance • Ensure that sessions and games are appropriate for the age, maturity, experience and ability of the individual • Consistently display high standards of appearance and behaviour • Know where to find appropriate first-aid equipment • Hold a current membership list and have a register available at all activities.

KSQ does have an exclusion policy which sets out the process and steps that KSQ will follow when serious concerns are raised regarding the behaviour of a player or adult attending KSQ training sessions or matches. This is available on request.

Player Development KSQ are eager to support players to develop their abilities and enjoy the game the best they can. At times players have been asked to play for other clubs or have been asked to trial with professional clubs. We ask that parents inform the Head Coach of their child's team as soon as possible if their child has been asked to play or attend trials for another club / squad. There is a protocol that clubs and scouts must adhere to therefore it is important to communicate with the Head Coach.

They provide an excellent opportunity for them to learn new skills, become more confident and maximise their own unique potential. This policy and the supporting procedures are based on the following principles:

• The welfare of children and vulnerable adults is the primary concern. • All children and vulnerable adults, whatever their age, culture, disability, gender, language, racial origin, religious belief and/or sexual identity have the right to protection from abuse. • It is everyone’s responsibility to report any concerns of abuse to the relevant authorities depending on the nature of the incident • All incidents of alleged poor practice and abuse will be taken seriously and responded to swiftly and appropriately. • Confidentiality is upheld and personal data is processed in accordance with the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1999 and the Human Rights Act 1998.
