This fall, Middlesex Community College’s Corporate and Community Education & Training Program is offering a series of art exploration seminars, beginning on September 17.

A master of 20th century Modernism, the artistic career of Henri Matisse proves his boundless creativity and energy. This seminar presents an overview of Matisse’s life and art, beginning with his powerful Fauvist work. Matisse’s style continued to change and evolve as we see his subject matter gravitate around the female form, leading to his mature style focusing purely on color and form. Finally, Matisse’s experimentation with reduction of space and simplification of form set the stage for the incredible cut-outs series. PER 774 30 - $29

Edward Hopper was a prominent American realist painter and printmaker. This seminar will present an overview of his work. While he was most popularly known for his oil , he was equally proficient as a watercolorist and printmaker. Both in his urban and rural scenes, his spare and finely calculated renderings reflected his personal vision of modern American life. PER 775 30 - $29

Edgar Degas was a French artist famous for his paintings, sculptures, prints and drawings. This seminar presents an overview of the artist’s life and works. He is especially identified with the subject of dance and is regarded as one of the founders of Impressionism. PER 778 30 - $29

Isabella Steward Gardner, a leading American art collector, philanthropist, and patron of the arts, founded the Museum in Boston. She had a zest for life, an energetic intellectual curiosity and a love of travel. She was a friend of noted artists and writers of the day, including , James McNeill Whistler, Dennis Miller Bunker, Anders Zorn, Henry James, Okakura Kakuzo and Francis Marion Crawford. This seminar will focus on the life of Gardner and her lasting legacy. PER 779 30 - $29
