1053 ICE FISHING LAWS

GENERAL PROVISIONS

Sec. 45. Ice fishing regulated. All inland waters of the state are closed to Ice fishing except those which have been opened to fishing through the ice by rule and regulation of the commissioner. A person legally licensed may fish through the ice in the daytime with not more than 5 lines, set or otherwise, which shall be under the immediate supervision of such person, in any waters which have been opened to ice fishing by the commissioner.

It shall be lawful to fish in the nighttime by using not more than 5 lines set or otherwise for cusk in the waters which have been opened to ice fishing by the commissioner for salmon, trout and togue. The commissioner may open other waters for fishing for cusk in"the"night­ time.

FISHING LICENSES No resident of the State over 18 years of age and no non-resident over the age of 10 years can lawfully fish through the ice in any inland waters of the State, or transport any fish taken therefrom without a fishing license.

Unless otherwise specified the legal lengths and daily limits which have been established for open water fishing in each county shall apply to all waters open to ice fishing in those counties.

A person shall not have in his possession at any time more fish than he may lawfully take in one day.

2 In all cases wherein the daily bag limit differs from the tables as listed, the limit of fish which may be legally taken by any one person in any one day is stated herein either in numbers of fish or pounds under County or Group headings.

Sec. 41. Sale of certain fish prohibited; penalty. It shall be un­ lawful for any person to sell or buy directly or indirectly any land­ locked salmon, trout, togue, black bass, white perch or pickerel except that pickerel may be sold in Washington county. A violation of this section shall be punishable by a fine of not less than $10, or more than $30, and costs, for each offense, and in addition thereto, $1 for each fish sold or purchased.

Sec. 42. Lumber camps shall not serve salmon, trout, togue, bass or pickerel. No owner, keeper or employee thereof or any other person shall take any salmon, trout, togue, black bass, white perch or pickerel from the inland waters of the state for the purpose of serving or consuming the same in any camp, house or other building used partly or wholly in lumbering operations, log driving, or con­ struction of any kind. It shall be prima facie evidence of a violation of this section on the part of any keeper or owner of such camp used in lumbering or construction operations to have in his possession in such camp any fish described in this section. The provisions of this section shall not apply to pickerel in Washington county.

3 ANDROSCOGGIN COUNTY Open to ice fishing for pickerel, white perch, hornpout, yellow perch, eels, cusk, chubs and smelts from the time ice forms in the fall until it goes out in the spring.

Allen Pond, Greene Lard Pond, Turner Androscoggin River Mud Pond, Turner Androscoggin River, Little No Name Pond, Lewiston Bartlett Pond, Livermore Range Pond, Lower, Poland Bear Pond, Big, Turner Round Pond, Turner Berry Pond, Greene Sabattus Pond, Webster Black Pond, Turner Sandy Pond, Turner Bog Brook, from Buckman’s Spear Pond, Webster bridge to Little Androscoggin Stone Mill Pond, Durham River, Mechanic Falls and Sutherland Pond, Webster Minot Taylor Pond, Auburn Hooper Pond, Greene The Basin, Auburn The above waters and all other lakes and ponds are open to ice fishing for all fish (except bass) during February and March EXCEPT those which are listed below' as closed. Except that all natural or artificial ponds 10 acres or less formed on brooks, streams or rivers are closed to ice fishing.

Closed Androscoggin Lake, Leeds Range Pond, Upper, Poland (also Kennebec County) Worthley Pond, Poland Auburn Lake, Auburn

Allen Pond, Greene: Closed southwesterly of a line reaching from a red post at a point on the easterly shore to a rock with a pine tree on it and a stripe of red paint on the westerly shore.

Bog Brook, Mechanic Falls and Minot: Open as per the first group. Middle Range Pond, Poland: Open for ail except trout, salmon and bass during February and March only.

Moose Hill Pond, East Livermore: Open for all fish during February and March.

Pleasant Pond, Turner: Closed southerly of a line running from the red post in front of the old ice house on the southwest shore and touching the point of land on the west shore and running thence northeasterly to the red post on the northeasterly shore.

Thompson Pond, Poland (also Cumberland and Oxford counties): Open for all fish (except bass) during February and March. Daily limit 4 in the aggregate of trout, togue and salmon.

4 AROOSTOOK COUNTY Open to ice fishing for pickerel, white perch, hornpout, yellow perch, eels, cusk, chubs and smelts from the time ice forms in the fall until it goes out in the spring. Closed Adams Pond, Bridgton Peabody Pond, Naples, Sebago, Coffee Pond, Casco Bridgton Hancock Pond, Sebago, Denmark Sabbathday Lake, New Notched Pond, Gray, New Gloucester Gloucester, Raymond Crystal Lake, Gray: Open on Fridays and Saturdays during Feb­ ruary only. Long Lake, Naples, Bridgton and Harrison: Open as per the first group. No bag and possession limit on white perch. Open for cusk fishing with not more than 5 set lines per person, which lines shall have a sinker thereon of not less than 4 ounces in weight which shall be not more than 12 inches from the end of the line to which the hook is attached, said sinker being placed on the bottom of the lake when 6 not in use. Provided that set lines for cusk shall be plainly marked with the name and address of the person who set the same and need not be under his immediate supervision between the hours of 4 P.M. and 8 A.M. following. Moose Pond, Bridgton and Denmark: Above the Roosevelt high­ way open as per the first group. South of the Roosevelt highway open during February and March for all fish except bass. From Walkers bridge south to the dam open to pickerel fishing from the time the ice forms in the fall until it goes out in the spring. Royal River. Open in No. Yarmouth and Yarmouth from Dunn’s Depot Bridge to Weston Dam. Sebago Lake, Windham, Standish, Sebago, Naples, Casco and Raymond: Open from the time the ice forms for all fish except salmon, trout and black bass. No bag and possession limit on white perch. Open for cusk fishing with not more than 5 set lines per person, which lines shall have a sinker thereon of not less than 4 ounces in weight which shall be not more than 12 inches from the end of the line to which the hook is attached, said sinker being placed on the bottom of the lake when not in use. FRANKLIN COUNTY Open for pickerel, white perch, hornpout, yellow perch, eels, cusk, chubs and smelts from the time ice forms in the fall until it goes out in the spring. Androscoggin River Lock Pond, Chesterville Crowell Pond, Chesterville, Mud Pond, Chesterville New Sharon and Vienna Norcross Pond, Chesterville Daggett’s Pond, New Vineyard North Pond, Chesterville Drury Pond, Temple Pinnacle Pond, Kingfield Egypt Pond, Chesterville and Round Pond, Chesterville Vienna Sand Pond, Chesterville Fellows Pond, Chesterville , Temple Gammon Pond, Freeman and Taylor Hill Pond, Strong New Portland Village Pond, New Vineyard Half Moon Pond, Carthage Walton’s Mill Pond, Farm­ Horseshoe Pond, Chesterville ington Lily Pond, New Vineyard Weathering Pond, Eustis The above waters and all lakes and ponds listed below are open during February and March for all fish (except bass). All waters not listed are dosed. Mirror Lake (or Parkis Pond), Jay Mud Pond, Jay : Open as per the first group for all fish except salmon, trout, togue and bass. 7 HANCOCK COUNTY Open to ice fishing for pickerel, white perch, hornpout, yellow perch, eels, cusk, chubs and smelts from the time ice forms in the fall until it goes out in the Spring. Desert: Open during February and March for all fish except bass. Silver Lake, Bucksport: Open for all except game fish from the time ice forms in the fall until February 1st.
