8 9 Shabbos – Creation of Purpose

Halacha is the bedrock of . It is through this vast and intricate Jewish legal system that Hashem reveals Himself in the world. It is not surprising then, that if we are looking to find the osophical truths and spiritual messages of Judaism, Halacha should be the first port of call. Shabbos is no different in this regard.

Rav Yitzchak Hutner (Shabbos Ma’amar 1:4) an accessory to the food.” reveals how the essence of Shabbos can be extracted from one, seemingly idiosyncratic Picture the scene the Mishna is describing. A halacha in hilchos hozta’ah, the laws of carrying person is carrying a tiny amount of food on a on Shabbos. For all the melachos, forbidden huge plate (nouvelle cuisine for example!). And not only are they patur different. In fact, the Mishna in chapters 7 to 10 of for carrying the food, they are even exempt for Shabbos, goes to great length detailing the exact carrying the container because it’s simply there amount of all different items one must carry to for the sake of the food. be chayav on a d’oraisah level (there may still be a rabbinic prohibition of lesser amounts). But here comes a surprising twist. The Mishna Shabbos in general. For six days Hashem created, 10:5 teaches the following: fashioned and set into motion everything we On Shabbos we look at the food on the plate and Shabbos is a priceless gift, not least because it have in the universe. Avram stood out among others around, Treading that holy and crumbling ground.
