Thanksgiving service for the retirement of Marlene Cozett

Marlene Cozett, the executive secretary to Bishop Garth Counsell re- tired at the end of January 2019 after 24 years of dedicated service in the diocesan administration offices. A service of Thanksgiving took place at the Chapel where colleagues past and present; family and friends gathered.

We give thanks for Marlene’s commitment, love, care and loyalty in her many roles while working for the diocese. We pray that as she embraces her journey of retirement, that it be one of peace, happi- ness and of exciting new beginnings.

Thank you Marlene, for your insight, your guidance, your compan- ionship, your integrity, and for all the sacrifices you made. May God bless the path you take. May you continue to spread your kindness, may God watch over you and shield you from harm and may all your prayers be answered.

The December school holidays kicked off with fun and fellowship as Fikelela hosted holiday programs for 5 days at various parishes and community centres. Church of the Resurrection , St Mary’s , St Andrew’s Steenberg, Church of the Holy Spirit Heideveld and the Cathkin Community Recreational Hub in Heide- veld were our hosts, in partnership with the Department of Community Safety.

Our aim for the holiday program was to create awareness around vocational skills. Apart from this we created an environment for laughter, fun, games and learning during the festive period. All 5 sites had over 50 children attend- ing on a daily basis and with limited volunteers available Cathkin community to assist, was a challenge for the leaders. Despite this, we fed and accommodated 1374 children.

Our partners were, Su- perbook, Green Anglicans, the South African Police Ser- vice, the Fire Brigade, the Department of Health, Beverley Hendricks (first aider), the South African Defence Force, The Naval Base, and the South African Scouts.

We are grateful to the anglican churches, clergy, parish council and congregations.
