4. Catalogue of Psychidae 4.1. Family-group names

Psychidae Boisduval, 1829 Psychidae Boisduval, 1829: 44. Type . Psyche Schrank, 1801. Rem a r k s. According to Agassiz (1848: 905), the year 1829 is the correct date of original publication of Psychidae Boisduval. Later, Boisduval (1840: 78) treated the taxon as "tribus Psychides" (Fletcher & Nye 1991: xiv).

= Psychoidae Agassiz, 1848: 905, an unjustified emendation of Psychidae Boisduval, 1829. Type genus. Psyche Schrank, 1801 (originallynotstated). Rem a r k s. Not cited by Fletcher & Nye (1991).

= Animulina Herrich-Schäffer, 1855d: 83. Typ e gen u s. Animula Herrich-Schäffer, 1856. Rem a r k s. Nye & Fletcher 1991: xii (as synonym of Psychidae).

= Canephoridae Herrich-Schäffer, 1853c: 17. Typ e gen u s. Originally not designated; based on Canephora Hübner, 1822. Rem a r k s. When originally described, only Fumea Haworth, 1811 and Epichnopteryx Heylaerts, 1900, but not Canephora, were included in Canephoridae. Canephoridae is a valid family group name and a junior subjective synonym of Psychidae (Nye & Fletcher 1991: xiii). Hampson (1893a: 302) treated the taxon as Canephorinae with authorship Heylaerts.

= Micropsychiniidae Gomez Bustillo, 1979c: 107. Typ e gen u s. Micropsychinia Gomez Bustillo, 1979. Remarks. Leraut 1985: 345 (as synonym of Psychidae).

:t: Canepheridae Kozhanchikov, 1956: 63, an incorrrect subsequent spelling of Canephoridae Herrich-Schäffer, 1853.

:t: Macropsychina Tutt, 1900b: 264. Rem a r k s. Not based on an available genus-group name in and therefore unavailable (Code article 11.7.1.1).

:t: Mesopsychina Dalla Torre 1929: 27). Rem a r k s. Not based on an available genus-group name in Lepidoptera and therefore unavailable (Code article 11.7.1.1).

:t: Micropsychidae Gomez Bustillo, 1978: 245, 252. Rem a r k s. Not based on an available genus-group name in Lepidoptera and therefore unavailable (Code article 11.7.1.1), but see Micropsychiidae Gomez Bustillo, 1979.

:t: Micropsychiidae Gomez Bustillo, 1979b: 330. Rem a r k s . Originally spelled "Micropsychiiadae". Micropsychia Gomez Bustillo, 1979 is a junior homonym of Micropsychia Agassiz, 1847: 234 (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) and therefore, Micropsychiidae is nomenclaturally

21 invalid under the Code, article 39. The objective replacement name is Micropsychiniidae Gomez Bustillo, 1979.

:t Micropsychina Tutt, 1900b: 128. Rem a r k s. Not based on an available genus-group name in Lepidoptera and therefore unavailable (Code article 11.7.1.1).

:t Psechidae Kozhanchikov, 1956: 179, an incorrect subsequent spelling of Psychidae Boisduval, 1829.

:t Psycheoidina Heylaerts, 1881 a: 65. Rem ar k s. Originally included in Psycheoidina were only the two newly described genera Diabasis Heylaerts, 1881 and Heckmeyeria Heylaerts, 1881. Thus, Psycheoidina is not based on an available genus-group name in Lepidoptera and therefore unavailable (Code article 11.7.1.1): Also cited as Psycheoididae Tutt, 1900b: 274, 433.

:t Psychina Heinemann, 1859: 177, an incorrect subsequent spelling of Psychidae Boisduval, 1829.

:t Psychoidinae Hampson 1893a: 303, an incorrect subsequent spelling of Psycheoidina Heylaerts, 1881. Rem ar k s . Originally cited with authorship Heylaerts, referring to :t Psycheoidinae Heylaerts, 1881. Also cited by Gaede (1929: 486).

:t Psycheodinae Dugdale (1988: 67), an incorrect subsequent spelling of Psycheoidina Heylaerts, 1881.

:t Psychoidae Lederer, 1853b: 73 and 1853c: 363, an incorrect subsequent spelling of Psychidae. Rem a r k s . Originally, Lederer cited Herrich-Schäffer as author of Psychoidae and only included the genus Psyche Schrank, 1801.

:t Psychoides Burmeister, 1878: 394. Rem ar k s. Type species not cited. Originally included only Psychidae ("Oeceticoides, Animulines and Psychides ("Bombyces")). Therefore not based of Psychoides Bruand, 1847, with type species Bruand, 1847, a genus of .

Epichnopteriginae Tutt, 1900 Epichnopteryginae Tutt, 1900b: 102, 337, 338, 432, 433 (Epichnopterygidae, Epichnopteryginae, Epichnopterydi). Typ e gen u s. Epichnopterix Hübner, 1825. Rem a r k s. When originally described, Tutt (1900) based the family group name on Epichnopteryx Agassiz, 1847, an unjustified emendation of Epichnopterix Hübner, 1825. Under the Code article 35.4.1, the spelling of the stem of the family-group name must be corrected to Epichnopteriginae (Nye & Fleteher 1991: xxii).
