This apartment is in an enviable position overlooking the scenic River Estuary to the Peninsular. The apartment has direct access onto the Welsh Coastal Path from the front of the car park, and beyond that is the beach.

Welsh is widely spoken around South and you may have noticed road signs are in both Welsh and English. You are staying in the town of . In case you are wondering, this is pronounced similar to “klan-eth-lee”

Heating

The water and heating is controlled via 2 HIVE thermostats. Step by Step guide for using heating and hot water is in the Appliance User Guides folder.

The telephone number in the apartment is 01554 752 652 – this is incoming only.

Internet/Wifi

The internet is provided for your use, to enable you to work, email, surf the internet or just keep in touch with your friends and family. It is governed by the Home from Home terms of use. If the service is abused in anyway it will immediately be stopped. Due to our rural location the internet is not very fast, but is fast enough for most basic uses. You can connect up to 10 devices to the WiFi.

Very occasionally the internet router locks up and cannot be used. If this happens, the power needs resetting to the router, after which it should work again.

Do not under any circumstances give this password to anyone else and is changed regularly.

EVACUATION PROCEDURE in case of FIRE

For your safety, the apartment has a turn knob lock on the inside of the front door. This has been fitted to enable a fast escape should it be necessary. The apartment block also has an internal fire alarm and emergency lighting in the communal areas should it be required. In case of fire please exit via either the main apartment door or the patio door checking for danger before doing so.

Fire Extinguisher and Fire blanket – The fire blanket is mounted on the head height kitchen cupboard to the left of the hob, facing the seating area. There is also a small red fire extinguisher to the right of the main entry door in the hall.

Smoke alarm – the smoke alarm is hard wired to the electrics. Should it sound, please make your way to the car park at the rear of the building.

First Aid Kit – The First Aid Kit is located in the upper kitchen cupboard to the left of the fridge.

Electricity Fuse Board – can be found the hall to the right of the main door.

Electricity in the is 230v AC, 50hz. If there appears to be a powercut you can find more info by contacting UK Power Networks on 0800 31 63 105 and the postcode is SA15 2GA.

Please be mindful of energy efficiency – switch lights off when not needed and keep outside doors closed if the heating is being used, etc. The apartment uses all low energy LED light bulbs where possible. The building is built to latest energy efficiency and thermal standards and we buy our energy from a green provider using a large proportion of locally generated wind power.

Luggage Storage

Luggage and bags can be store on top of or within the wardrode in the main bedroom or in the built-in cupboard in the second bedroom.

Rubbish/Waste/Recycling

As you are looking at the front of the building (opposite side to the car park) you will see the bin store to the right of the building. Rubbish and recycling instructions can be found on the gate of the bin store. Items for recycling go into the blue bins, other items in the red bins.

Smoking

Smoking including vaping or e-cigarettes is not allowed inside the apartment. Also, please refrain from smoking close to the open door to the apartment where fumes can enter the building.

Candles, incense or similar are not allowed to be lit or burned inside the apartment.

Payphone

The nearest payphone is located near Llanelli Train station on New Dock Road.

Patio Door

We love to have the patio door open however there are a few precautions that we ask you to take which will help protect the doors, the glass, and yourselves.

When you have the main door open please use the grey (or blue) bendy ‘thing’ to tie the door back, this will stop it from closing suddenly if there is a gust of wind.

If you have both doors open, then please put the cloth anchor outside (to stop the door pushing against the fixed glass, and also again tie it back so it doesn’t close suddenly. We have lost a few of these so please ensure they are left for the next guest to use!

• Nearest supermarket – the closest is Lidl which is less than a mile away. To get there go right at the roundabout and left at the following roundabout and it’s on the right. There is also Tesco and Morrisons at Parc Trostre / Pemberton along with all the other usual ‘out of town’ shopping options (Starbucks, KFC, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, M&S, Boots, Primark, Debenhams etc). To get to Parc Trostre – go right at the roundabout, straight across the next roundabout, left at the next roundabout, over the bridge, then right at the next roundabout and follow the road into the retail area.

The Tesco store at Parc Trostre also sells DVD’s if you wish to buy any for watching.

• Nearest bus stop – There is a bus stop near the roundabout on the main road and the train station is about a 30 minute walk (head for Lidl and then continue down the road until you get to the station) which gives easy access to Swansea, Cardiff, & , Carmarthen and Tenby

• Nearest Petrol Station – There is a petrol station at Tesco on Parc Trostre

• Nearest Tourist Information – Can be found at Millennium Quay, Llanelli Beach which is left at the first roundabout, straight over at the next roundabout, and then left at the following roundabout. Millennium Quay buildings are now straight in front of you and they look vaguely like a ship.

Things to do Our area is blessed with many activities, attractions and natural resources which help to enhance the region and make it an enjoyable location in which to live and stay.

From the apartment you can walk for miles along the Millenium Coastal path. If you go LEFT you will walk around the Machynys Peninsula and eventually reach the WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre which is open all year around. If you go RIGHT from the apartment you will reach the Millenium Quay and the wide sandy Llanelli Beach. Further along the coast is the pretty Burry Port Lighthouse and if you are heading that far maybe stop for tea and cake at the Pavilion café which is near the Amelia Earhart Plaque.

Llanelli area Llanelli, the largest town in both the county of and the preserved county of , Wales, sits on the Loughor estuary on the West Wales coast, approximately 10 miles west-northwest of Swansea and 12 miles south-east of the county town, Carmarthen

WWT Llanelli Wetlands Centre WWT Llanelli Wetlands Centre at Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, Wales is one of nine wetland nature reserves in the UK managed by the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust.

Machynys Peninsula Golf Country Club, Spa and Restaurant This Nicklaus designed course near Llanelli surrounds the beautiful clubhouse, which houses the 90 seat Machynys Brasserie and Monks Spa. The facility also has a 20-bay driving range and golf academy. Machynys is the newest/youngest ever course to be awarded R&A Championship status. Just minutes from the apartment.

Scarlets Rugby Llanelli is one of the most famous rugby towns in the world. It is the focal point for one of the most passionately supported rugby clubs in the world, the Scarlets - with a rich and unrivalled rugby heritage.

Ffos Las Racecourse Ffos Las has brought top class horse racing back to West Wales for the first time since 1937. Situated in the heart of Carmarthenshire the setting is magnificent.

Burry Port Lighthouse Burry Port harbour was built between 1830 and 1836 to replace the harbour at Pembrey, located 400 yards to the west. Burry Port was once the main coal exporting port for the nearby valleys, but the dock now houses the only marina in Carmarthenshire, and the harbour was dredged especially for this purpose.

Right outside the apartment Looking across to the Gower you will see the Estuary. At low tide you can walk all the way across to the Gower (with wet feet!). Going out across the foreshore at low tide can be a lovely walk but beware a few parts of the foreshore can be very soft sand where you may sink in 10 to 20cm or a slippery wet clay like surface so please be careful.

At high tide the sea can come all the way up the beach almost to the rocks.

Millennium Coastal Park The 22 kilometres of coastline along the northern shore of the Loughor Estuary has been transformed into a unique array of tourist attractions, wildlife habitats and leisure facilities.

Parks & Gardens Pembrey Country Park Pembrey Country Park consists of some 500 acres (200 ha) of parkland. Its southern edge is formed by the 8 miles (13 km) long beach. The park contains visitor attractions such as ski slope, adventure play areas, a miniature railway and mountain bike trails

Singleton Park and Botanical Gardens – Sketty Singleton Park can be accessed from Mumbles Road on the seafront or from Gower Road in Sketty. The park is used throughout the year for various festivals including music, proms in the park, classic car shows and more. Within the Park is Swansea’s Botanical Gardens which are beautifully maintained. Entrance is free to the parks however fees may apply to events.

Farms & Adventure parks Folly Farm Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (also known as Folly Farm), is situated to the north of Saundersfoot and Tenby in . Initially a farm attraction, the park is now also home to an indoor vintage funfair, a zoo with over 200 different species of animal and extensive indoor and outdoor adventure play areas.

In recent years they have also added the Penguin Coast, a state-of-the-art saltwater penguin which is home to 24 Humboldt penguins, Pride of Pembrokeshire, to house six African lions and Kifaru Reserve, a breeding facility for Eastern black rhino.

Additional Information about Swansea Bay, Mumbles & the Gower Beaches As the UK’s first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) - the Swansea Bay, Mumbles and Gower region is blessed with many sandy and interesting beaches, some of which are easily accessed and others which are well hidden and a little more challenging.

Caswell Bay: Very popular with every age group, although young families love the safe bathing conditions. Caswell Bay is particularly popular with surfers over the winter months. The Wales Coastal Path can be accessed from behind The Surfside Café which is located on the other side of the bay Follow it and you reach in approximately 30 mins.

Swansea Bay: This huge expanse of sand runs from Swansea Marina all the way to Mumbles Head. The bay is lined with the popular promenade which is excellent for walking and cycling. Bracelet Bay: is a mixture of rock pools and sand and is flanked on one side by and on the other by one of our favourite restaurants ‘Castellamare’ which is an Italian restaurant with a restaurant and separate café bar. The restaurant boasts stunning sea views. Home from Home have a webcam positioned at the restaurant which can be viewed by visiting www.homefromhome.com/webcams - There is plenty of parking on offer and public toilets.

Limeslade Bay: A similar bay to at the start of the Mumbles to Langland Coastal Path. Fortes ice-cream bar and café (01792 368863).

Rotherslade Bay: The closest sandy beach to Mumbles, which at low tide joins with Langland Bay. The Surfside café (01792 369455) serves light meals and refreshments, toilets.

Langland Bay: Due to its location close to Mumbles and Swansea it is very popular with locals and holiday visitors. Langland is famous for it Victorian style beach huts which have recently been restored. There are lots of activities including tennis courts, surf hire and the recently crowned ‘best golf course in Wales’ Langland Golf Club. Brandy Cove: Cliff path access, a secluded bay located between Caswell and Pwll Du

Pwll Du: Beautiful pebble and sand covered bay, accessed via the coastal path or from Bishopston or Eastcliff.

Pobbles Bay: There is quite a long walk from Southgate to get to Pobbles but the walk is well worth the effort. A quiet sandy expanse awaits you, usually only used by locals in the know. It is located behind the famous ‘’. Cracking views can be experienced on the way down to the beach.

Three Cliffs Bay: Featured on ITV’s ‘Britain’s Best View’ this is one of the most photographed areas of Gower. The views are terrific whether you are on the beach itself or viewing from the coastal path above. Park in and walk across the footpath on Pennard Golf Club to the castle for the best views. Alternatively, you can park in Parkmill at the Shepherds shop and café, and then walk through the bottom of the valley. Perched above the valley is which offers some great photographic opportunities.

Tor Bay and Crawley Woods: almost the same sandy beach which is separated by an outcrop. Once again walking the cliff path provides stunning panoramic views out to sea.

Rhossili Bay: This massive expanse of sand really is stunning, no matter what the weather. It is not very accessible however there is a viewing area on the cliff top in front of the National Trust Shop and information centre. There are several cafes in Rhossili including The Worms Head and the Bay Bistro. Refreshment, parking, public transport.

Whiteford Sands: This is a walk rather than a tourist beach but one that is well worth discovering. It can be accessed from Llanmadoc on north Gower. It takes in woods, meadows, wild flowers, and of course the beach. Home of the Whiteford Lighthouse which is the last remaining cast-iron lighthouse in the UK (Built in 1865).

Walks and Nature Reserves on the If you want to go a little further afield the Gower Peninsula is an area of outstanding natural beauty and much of that beauty can be accessed by use of the Wales Coast Path. From this path the visitor can enjoy stunning views of the sea with Devon in the distance or Pembroke to the west and to the south-west Lundy Island.

Inland there are more strenuous walks such as the five peaks to Rhossili taking in Gower’s highest peaks: , Ryer’s Down, Lanmadoc Hill, Harding’s Down and Rhossili Down and gentler strolls such as through with its historical features of Cathole Cave and the Burial Chambers.

The Gower is also blessed with five designated Nature Reserves which can be planned in as part of your walking schedule or enjoyed in themselves.

Nature Reserves in the Gower area Bishop’s Wood

Bishop’s Wood is 46 Acres of woodland and limestone grassland. It is a classic example of a limestone woodland and dates back to the 17c. Bishop’s Wood plays an important role in education and involvement.

Cadle Heath This local nature reserve is one of the best examples of urban heath in the country. It is home to many rare species of wild plants such as whorled caraway and wood bitter vetch as well as a wide range of birds, invertebrates and small mammals.

Cwmllwyd Wood Managed for wildlife and people Cwmllwyd Wood lies on the southern slope of Valley about two miles from Swansea. The 7-hectare woodland became a Local Nature Reserve in 1981. It is well known for its bluebells which are at their best in May.

Killay Marsh Wet woodland (alder and willow carr), swamp and marsh habitat straddle the upper River Clyne with open marsh, fen, wet heath, with drier grassland and woodland on the slightly drier marginal area. The habitats combine to provide a rich mixture of plant and animal diversity.

Mumbles Hill Habitats present on the Hill include Maritime Heath, Limestone Grassland, Limestone Scrub and Woodland, each supporting different plants & animals. Over 200 species of plants and fungi, 40 species of birds & 100s of species of butterflies, bees and bugs have been recorded on the Hill. Small mammals such as voles, foxes and shrews also can be seen. Resident birds include Green Woodpecker, Skylark and Jay whilst migratory birds include House Martins, Swallows and Garden Warblers.

Pwll Du Cliffs Comprising of a narrow strip of flat land on top of the cliffs and the slope down to the sea washed rocks, Pwll Du Local Nature Reserve supports a variety of important habitats and plants. Habitats include limestone grassland, maritime cliffs and scrub.

An early 14th century fortified manor house. Built by the de la Bere family until, after a brief sacking by Owain Glyndwr in 1405, it was given to the powerful Sir Rhys ap Thomas, Governor of Wales, in 1485 after he slayed Richard the III at the Battle of Bosworth.

Established in about 1106 by Henry de Beaumont as the seat of administration of the Marcher Lordship of Gower. It was attacked many times by the Welsh and took its modern shape in the late 13th early 14th century. Its military significance had dwindled and eventually after the le Breoses, (its new owners), settled in Oystermouth Castle, was used for many other purposes: A market place, prison and blacksmiths among them.

Pennard Castle: is an impressive ruin overlooking the amazing Three Cliffs Bay. Easily accessed by following the footpath across Pennard golf course. The castle was built in the 12th century.
